People often say this as a negative about the Mustang, but the last time I walked through a rental car lot there were BMWs, Mercedes, etc.

And Mustangs aren't the cheap rental cars. They are a big upgrade in price from the base economy cars. Mustang is the car the agent tries to tempt you with so that the rental company will make more money.

So, is it really a bad thing that Mustang is a rental car?

No. Because it means Ford has to make sure the car is reliable as far as fleet metrics are concerned. They don't dare lose very lucrative fleet contracts or suffer penalties for breach.

Many companies use rental cars as a way to introduce people to a car or brand.

I have driven many cars I would have never driven if I hadn’t rented them.

Now when you name is Nissan and fleet is a large part of your total sales- it’s a problem.

I would never have considered buying a 1SS Camaro if I hadn't rented one for a week. I was already pre-disposed to wanting a Mustang (they just look right) even though I had never driven one before. Prior to buying my S550s I was appalled at how shitty the pre-2008's were though.
