Unless the lighter weight is done by making the car less of a huge barge. These cars are significantly bigger than I would prefer.

I disagree with your "ship sailing" comment as well. Cars can become more simple again. And the manufacturers can sell a lot more cars if those cars can be sold at lower prices.

IMO there's no reason to give up on V8s without a fight. There's absolutely nothing wrong with cars continuing to utilize V8 engines. I'm very, very tired of the fanatics consistently getting their way. We reasonable people tend to compromise over and over again. Meanwhile, the things we love are being taken from us.
I think much of the Mustang's current size is dictated by safety regs + 4 seats + usable trunk + room for a V8. But I agree, they do seem pretty huge. I'd love an example of a car returning to simpler roots, I honestly can't think of one. Some of that is dictated by safety regs, but other bits are based on needing to sell a car to thousands of people to pay for the development.

I always wonder why there aren't more small displacement V8s. I guess complexity & weight don't make them make sense?

wouldnt make sense to hybridize a 5.0L. What will happen I assume is a hybrid V6 with 500hp. And a 475Hp 5.0L Coyote with cylinder deactivation.

CD6 is the platform
S650 is the program
Remember the rumour about S650 being cancelled?
It looks that the S650 will live, but not under the CD6 Platforms (and I’m thinking it will be the later model year)

Agreed.

Whilst I'm sure the V8's days are numbered, I'm hoping/expecting the Coyote will live for the duration of S650.

Ideally, we'd still have:

5.0
5.0 + electric motors
5.2 + FI + electric motors

:ford:

V6 Hybrid with 500HP? That would be overoptimistic.

Quicker, faster, and more fuel efficient.

They could make more power with a 2-cylinder if they tried hard enough, and there are plenty of V6TT's that are no quicker/faster, nor fuel efficient than a 5.0 V8. Hardly a reason to want in a car as impractical as a Mustang.

Haha....no, I wish I knew. I just try and find pieces of the puzzle and put them together. And add in some wishful thinking. Doesn't always work though :D

I thought CD6 was their RWD/AWD/Longitudinal platform? At least that's what I'd read on BOF. If not, do you see S650 being "just" a refresh of the current platform?

:)

CD6 will be a very flexible platform... IDK what’s gonna happen, but AFAIK it doesn’t look like the S650 will be CD6 based. Maybe I’m wrong though.

It is, of sorts. Its going to be sold with the Polestar branding. But as a pure electric coupe, that's one of the nicest I've seen.

Pity they are going to be well over $100k though :(

The Polestar 1 is basically the Volvo Coupe Concept with a new grille. That car was introduced late 2013 at the same time as the S550. I've always loved the design and had they actually built it I might have been tempted. So I'm glad they never did. This new $100.000+ hybrid hoopla however does not interest me the least bit.

Yes. I cropped the photo to eliminate the references to Volvo, but wanted to give them credit through the “Automobile” Web Site.

Is very Mustang like, though, isn’t it?
