Lol ā€¦ my Silverado Reg Cab weighs 4700lbs. Ext Cab versions are 5500lbs.

My 2016 Mustang GT is pretty light compared to my truck  I think itā€™s 3700lbs ?

All this talk about fat is getting out of hand. This morning my GT PP1 asked if the spoiler delete makes her butt look fat... I said no (of course).

The Santa Cruz isn't really a truck, it uses the same chassis as their compact unibody SUV the Tuscon.
True. Unibody "trucks" tend to be lighter as they have no frame like "real" trucks. Also, if the Mustang had a truck bed (like the Explorer Sport Trac) I'm sure it would lose some weight. My 2020 shows 3700 lbs. on the registration which is 500 lbs. more than my old '71 Mustang 302 w/C4 auto. I suppose a lot of the weight comes from the powertrain (much heavier engine and A10 trans) as well as beefed up side protection from crashes, etc. not to mention all the "stuff" like A/C, computers and other electronic systems on board.)

I saw a Hyundai commercial last night and they showed a truck. I had no idea Hyundai made a truck....
Not that I want one, but I was curious of the specs. It's very similar to the rest of the market for a small 4 cylinder truck but I did notice the base model curb weight was less than my car!
Goodness our cars are fat pigs. I really hope the new 7th gen goes on some serious weight loss (it probably won't). I would love if it came in around 3500-3600 lbs

The 7th gen will be a 4 cyl Ecoboost.
A 6th gen base Ecoboost, non-premium, non-performance pack car typically weighs under 3,500 lbs.

Just take a look at the S550 crash images and you'll see where all the weight is. They are remarkably robust knowing many mustang drivers will hit trees and roll them etc I suppose haha.

There's no place I'd rather be aside from S Class etc....certainly not a GTI or similar.
Yep, safety in a world of trucks and SUV's means packing on the pounds, no way around it.

I do like the low trim cars with a manual though, they are in the low 3700 range which isn't too bad. A fully loaded automatic is a touch over 4,000.

The new Maverick is 3600 lbs. Personally I consider them trucks, though I understand that they are unibody construction. But they have a bed and can tow more than older pickups, so....who cares? No sense in being pedantic about it.

As to the Mustang- yes, it absolutely is a pig. It's probably being enabled by the Camaro and Challenger, which are also pigs. But then you look at cars like the C8, MX-5, GR86, Porsche Cayman/911, or Supra and think....eh....Ford could be doing so much better. Even a 4 door Honda accord is 3,400 lbs.

FWIW I doubt the S650 will weigh less, seeing as it is likely to use a revised S550 platform. I guess Ford could always pull a F-150 and substitute in some aluminum, but I kinda doubt that will happen.

guess this helps show why a no-option sub 3000 lb HCI fox was actually rather quick. put a blower on it and get up over 4-500 rwhp, and that could be cookin'

6th gen Camaros are not as piggy as Mustangs. A turbo 4 Camaro 1LE weighs 3,414 lbs (per MotorTrend) with a full tank of gas (19 gal) and trans and rear diff coolers. That's only a little heavier than a Supra 3.0 (3,372 lbs per C&D). Granted it's not as powerful. For comparison, the 2015 M6 Ecoboost Mustang weighs ~3,654 lbs. (also per MotorTrend scales) with a smaller fuel tank and no extra coolers. That's almost as much as a 6th gen SS M6. On the top trims, ZL1 A10 (3,925 lbs) vs GT500 (4,160 lbs); despite the ZL1 carrying 3 extra gallons of fuel it's still nearly 240 lbs lighter. Heck, an automatic Mach 1 premium weighs about the same as a ZL1.

When I had my '18 Mustang GT PP1 I did 70+ lbs worth of weight reduction (wheels, exhaust, other stuff). I wanted it to lose another 70+ lbs, or so, but was out of reasonable options. I didn't want it to get too light as to start to affect the OEM chassis/suspension tuning, which was tuned for the 3,800+ lbs the car weighed when it left the factory.

Mustangs are pretty heavy, but they have nothing on Challengers! Those things are downright fat.

Mustangs are nearly full steel machines. Steel chassis, most of the panels, basically all of the subframe components.. the platform itself is pretty dated.
F150 on the other hand, all aluminum panels. 2015 release resulted in 700+ pounds weight loss. https://www.torquenews.com/106/ford-breaks-down-2015-f150-weight-savings
Camaro alpha platform is a mixture of steel and aluminum to save weight. and some aluminum parts here and there to reduce 200 pounds. https://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm...nt/Pages/news/us/en/2015/mar/0330-camaro.html

Mustangs platform is outdated and I wish itll get a redesign or share platforms with something more advanced. I believe this was the original plan with the mustang and some Ford SUV but i believe 2023 is just a s550 update.

Where are you from that you think Hyundai makes anything near a "truck"? Don't care what the internet calls it or the ridgeline, not trucks, they are cars with open trunks.
