I doubt all these people paying ADM's are in that financial position though.
I watched a retired couple buy a Maveric L-something trim pay a 100% ADM, ie. bought it for twice the sticker.

hey could always rent the car out on Turo and hopefully make back the interest their losing
a guy who makes very little money selling kitchen upgrades got his hands on a newish 4-series BMW vert. Put it on Turo for $75/day or $500'ish a week. The lady who rented it for an initial 3 days has had it for over a month, so north of 2 grand/mo in fees. Maybe I should get in on this racket and let someone rent my Brittany. :)

I hope there's more to that story. 100% mark up on a little baby truck...that's insanity

Lariat. But at double the price it's still cheaper than an f150. I guess if you gotta have it and don't want to wait for production to catch up to demand...

We all knew ADM is coming in some markets where dealers can get away with it.
It's capitalism. Same as getting a new '22 off the lot at beginning of this year with big discount below invoice. Or not getting as big a discount for a '23 but with the color and options you want.
Markets work for things like this.

To the OP though: I wouldn't even pay MSRP for the DH. It's an overpriced, marginally improved Mach 1.

Insurance companies don't pay out the ADM, remember that when you take it out. That's your loss to eat.

I wonder if gap insurance covers ADM?
Yes, you can get GAP insurance if you pay dealership markup or "market adjustment" on a new car. GAP insurance covers the difference between the actual cash value of your vehicle and the amount you still owe on your car loan in the event that your car is stolen or totaled. It's just more expense added to your purchase of an inflated sticker for a depreciating asset. If you paid cash or put a large down payment down, you are not protected as it covers the loan.

There's the rub, can you get a loan with the vehicle for collateral and pay the ADM without a large down payment? I don't know, but it's not a win for the consumer in anyway other than getting the car you want at "all costs."

but any bank worth a damn caps it at some LTV ratio. Granted many banks were so stupid as to define that at up to 120% but smarter heads would have put language in there to cap payments to original MSRP or something rather less.

Local dealer has one coming, asked if I was interested. I said, "Maybe. But I'm sure you'll have an ADM on it."

He said yeah but it will be reasonable.

I told him from looking online that it looks like the ADM is going to be about $15K.

He said, "Yeah, that sounds about right."

Apparently his definition and mine of "reasonable" are 2 different numbers.

And no, even if I want one, I'm not paying that.

it's only a 20% markup. That's totally reasonable and customary. It's a "safe and effective" way to shear the sheep.

You have to remember, if they didn't charge ADM they wouldn't be able to stay in business. So it's a small price to pay for keeping those mechanics employed, and salesmen glad-handing customers and offering free coffee and tepid water. I mean, if they closed, where would you go for service and 300% markup on parts and tires?

Dealer Lives Matter.

ANY ADM is unresonable, the buyer is Literally giving money to the stealership with no benefits to his own self.

LOL I guarantee you if you showed up with MSRP in cash money, they would accept right away.

This is a pretty simple view lol...The benefits are people with money can just pay 5 or 10k for what they want, right now. No calling 100 dealerships, no effort, it is what it is. I know people that refused to pay 5 or 10k ADMs on GT500s and were looking for deals for YEARS, while I've been driving mine for 2 years and have 15k miles of fun and experiences and memories with it.

Edit: The key is paying an ADM on a car that's ACTUALLY undervalued by MSRP. The Dork Horse ain't that.
