The 2015 Z06 is a nightmare on the track. Not a fan of any C7. This was my toy until I sold her. Will get a GT350 in 2016 for sure. Also had a 1966 GT 350 back in 1985.

If Ford wanted the class would make room for them. The CR7 is nascar tech and that's it.
Hmmm,
a 458 GT3 is 4th in points, so it can run w the Vettes.

As far as the CR7 (sic) being NASCAR tech, you must obviously have never seen a GT3 car up close. I have and the tech is pretty amazing for a car that is based (loosely) on a street car. Carbon Fiber bodies, they even run the alternator off the rear diff on the Vette.
The Mustang in ANY guise will never run in GTLM or GTD.
Biggest reason is weight. New 911 GT3R is 2690 pounds! 1000 lbs lighter than a Mustang! Vette, Viper, BMW, Ferrari and all run Carbon fiber bodies.
No way Ford would put that kind of $$$ into a Mustang when they clearly are going to run the new GT in this class

Yep, them big bellowing bananas. Lots of torque but extremely rev limited.
The only thing the C7R engines have in common with NASCAR engines is that they are both small block, OHV cam in block engines.
They share almost no common parts. They have different blocks, heads, pistons, cranks, C7Rs have direct fuel injection, NASCAR uses carburetor type injection, different ignition, etc.
The NASCAR engines are 5.87 liters and are unrestricted (except for Daytona and Talledega to get close to 900hp, Vettes are 5.5 and use intake restrictors to keep them at about 500hp to "keep balance of performance".
Can you imagine how fast they would be if they did use NASCAR 900hp V8s?

Cup has been using EFI & McLaren ECUs for a few years now...
This is right. And the engines must be very different because the Nascar engines are not rev limited - in the sense that they have a very high redline.

The nascar motor has a 4.5 inch bore center and a valve layout like a SBF with Boss Heads. The ls has a 4.4 inch bore center and the valve layout is the opposite. The new LT now has the Ford valve layout.

The C7R has an engine based on an actual production LS series V-8 (albeit highly modified). That is obvious from the pic above.

Nascar engines are no longer production based for any manufacturer. Ford was the last hold out with a production based engine before Nascar let them finally build a purpose built engine like the other manufacturers.

Awesome cars! Love seeing these things roar.

On that note, here is a car that is much quicker than those GT350R's at the same track. ;)

[ame]

First track visit for that car. Down on power, and still needs some work and tweaks.

The owner thinks it will go sub 1.50's at WG

Yeah as Chevy pushes to improve their pushrod V8 design it continues to look more and more like an older pushrod Ford V8
