The GT350 sent many, many teams into exile. Even with a 44mm restrictor, there is a mechanical advantage an Flat Plane Crank has. It is similar advantage to that of a Boxster style engine... The driver doesn't need to shift as much.

Not many manufacturers can compete with a FPC V8. Ferrarri got its reputation as did many other exotics from its engine initially. It is an advantage in Motorsport that many just can't handle.

The presence of slower cars wouldn't change the outcome.
For someone who claims to know everything about IMSA and solo racing sure gets a lot of wrong info.

Believe what you want, but the GT350 is not the reason for the GS dwindle, if that's what you're trying to say.

I'm curious what Chevy will do with the 6th Gen....
Well.... GT350 is part of the reason of GS decline in that Multimatic shifted focus to the Ford GT, and only sold the 2nd car. No customer cars being available severely restricted access to GS. So if Porsche didn't throw a huge number of Cayman GT4 at the issue there would have been 3 cars in the class.

I think you're looking at it a bit wrong. Why would someone buy the GT350RC when touring car champion Pierre Kleinubing can't do crap for results because the rule package is so bad for the car, and the GT4s dominate?

Well, teams were trying to upgrade to the GT350R-C for this year long before the quality of the Cayman GT4 was known.

and part of the issue was that the #15 car keeps winning races even when the Cayman GT4 is vastly faster on the track. It was getting a little stupid at one point when the "heavy but powerful" GT350R-C was getting pulled by the cayman GT4 on every straightaway, and had to torch the tires to keep up. But the #15 was right there with it with superior pitwork and strategy.

If there were more GT350R-C teams they would have a ton more data points to show the mechanical performance vs driver vs team when making class balance choices. Its IMO largely why the Aston is a backmarker. You are going to get nearly 0 respect at class balance time if you are the only car those rules apply to. It takes just as much time and effort to balance, with minimal results to the series as a whole and you have almost no data to do it on.

I don't agree that more RCs would have changed anything in terms of added data points. It's obvious the RC is slow but the 15 had better pit stops and strategy than the 76, meanwhile ALL the GT4s have bad stops and strategy, but they make up for it in outright speed, often beating the 15s advantage in the pits and outright killing the 76 RC. In a straight up fight like Laguna & the Glen, the RCs were murdered by the GT4s. The Porsche bias is strong in both classes, which is why you see more and more people buy them. Over half the field in both classes are Caymans for crying out loud. No one wants to spend good money on an uncompetitive car. Did you watch Road America? The Aston did just fine. #CaymanCup

I am afraid you are wrong.

Once the rules wee stretched for the z28, manufactuers put in a warning notice. After that, the GT350 and GT4 were approved and EVERYONE bailed.

No contest... not even close.

You know the GT350's lap times cannot be made chef by anything in class. Look at the z28 going nearly unrestricted in a 7 liter V8 only to go head to head with a restricted Boss 302.

Sorry bud... w/ a huge restriction, even the Porsche GT4 couldn't handle the Mustang. Everyone knows how good the GT4 is, both the GT350 and GT4 were approved the same season and laid waste to everything that showed up.

Remember when the z28 used every rule in the book to barely manage a 3 win season and a 1:36 at Laguna?

Enter the GT350 and GT4 (M4 GTS in its way too). The GT350 is so fast IMSA needed to design a new class for it. :)

Yes, everything that use to be in class is literally obsolete due to the GT350 and GT4 performance.

Again, no reason to spoil the results by posting in this fashion.

Pay them no mind.

The GT350 and GT4 are literally the pinnacle of the GS class. None of theses guys complained when an unrestricted 7 liter z28 was sweeping the class of Boss 302's and M3's. What fun was that? A lot because the z28 still struggled.

Exactly 6 months later the GT350 is being developed in GS and it dominated this season with 6 win and 6 poles. I don't care how many slower cars were out there, nothing would have stopped the GT350... not even a world class GT4.

The 1LE doesn't stand a chance in GT4. Chevy will likely stick with the C7 in GT4 and that is a far better competitor in my opinion.

I cannot wait to watch the full broadcast posted on IMSA at Road Atlanta. I've kept up with almost every race and they are fantastic to watch on a big screen. Well done!
