The new coyote motor has a higher redline and makes more power in the top end than previous gens of stang and camaro. This is exactly what you'd expect.
In order to catch up at the end of the 1/4 mile the Mustang would have to be traveling more quickly. Assuming the 0-60 numbers are correct, the mph on the 1/4 seems funny.

Unless the Mustang driver is shifting or reaching redline right before the end of the 1/4. That must be the explanation, unless there's a typo in the article.

I'd say that's a pretty good guess, because videos of standing miles have the mustangs overtaking the camaros at higher speeds. It seems to be an example of two different philosophies towards performance with the Camaros performing better 0-60, but the mustangs doing marginally better from then on.

The trap speed should be higher for the Mustang in that case...

Not really. It's average speed over the second half 1/4 mile would could be higher yet have the same peak while maintaining a lead. Also if there was a shift at the end...

If you've got 10 students in one class and 10 in another, yet one student from both makes a 100 on their last test, that doesn't mean the class averages are the same.

"As pony cars continue to battle it out ... more technology and more performance are being added continuously."
Translation: "We Charge You BIG Money."

"the 2018 Ford Mustang ... has no glaring flaws, and is without a doubt the best total package."
Translation: "Camaro rebates reach record highs!"

They have and it’s a flat 12 second car in the 1/4. Some people have done even better.
There has not been a magazine/TV test of an A10 car that I'm aware of. Please correct me if I'm wrong and provide a link.

Was not showroom stock though.
You're right, but a showroom stock car did an 11.83

I totally believe this for several reasons:
1) Torque and HP curves on the engines are completely different.
2) Based on a huge number of 1/4 mile runs on my 2011 Brembo SC with somewhat similar gearing: but 5th was 1:1, the '18 is 1:1 on the 4th. Every time I ran my car I had to shift into 5th and lost serious time. Drove me nuts. '18 fixed this, but the gears are long to do it and I think Ford decided that they wanted the PP1 to compete with the Camaro here in the 1/4 mile. Just my opinion
3) The drivers testing the cars need to do a LOT of 1/4 mile times to really compare the two cars. No matter the car, it takes a LOT of runs on a manual trans to get it just right.
4) Makes complete sense to me that the Mustang is slower in the 0-60 as this is where torque is king. Gotta shift at least once for each car, but catching up to the torque out of the hole is gonna be hard. I think of the Camaro as a diesel tractor engine and the Mustang as a Ferrari engine.
