On my wife's car, the oil dipstick is made of what I would call aircraft cable, with one section of thicker aluminum near the end with the hash marks on it. I am thinking that this is the type of dipstick I would like to have on my Mustang. The stock dipstick, being a steel blade, and located right under the tower brace, is sometimes a PITA to get out without dripping oil. Has anyone heard of a more flexible aftermarket unit for Mustangs?

With all the technology we had, why can't they come up with a better accuracy to check oil level like a gas gauge, so we don't have to get our hands dirty. I can hear those with ev laughing at us now cause they don't have to worry about engine, transmission oil, or coolant.

I understand that is a convenient way to do it. My Audi S4 has that feature, and I can check the oil level thru the MMI just by tapping a few icons. But I am old school, and checking the level while sitting in the car doesn't tell me the color of the oil. I just like to actually see oil on a dipstick, so even though the Audi does not even have a dipstick from the factory, I bought an aftermarket one and use it to check the accuracy of the digital gauge.

Just make sure you know you would have to trim that Lokar dipstick to length, the ED-5000COY. I originally thought they were straight replacements but they have to be gauged-to-fit.

One of our cars has that but it only tells if the level is high/ok/low. There is no dipstick tube and the oil level may take 15 minutes of driving to read accurately (or so the manual claims). It's ok but I still want a dipstick, it's tough being old-school. ;)

I'll have the last laugh for this as I drive by, seeing fools waiting for a recharge. As I pull out of a gas station 5 mins after 10 min fill up.
