Building custom wheels is a bit of a game of roulette. I never know when I will be getting that text or call from some of you asking "What would you do if it was your car?" In this particular instance the 800+ horsepower Shelby GT500 Signature Edition is the subject in question.
Mick's ( @1268 ) Velocity Blue model went in for the full treatment. As many others know, the build process for these cars is a waiting game. Mick needed a little throttle therapy while the Shelby was away. So he made the only proper sports car choice and brought home a 992 Porsche 911 Turbo. The 992 comes factory with 20/21 wheels under its hips. After seeing the wider haunches on the rear wide body of the Shelby, he got to thinking about how a set of 21" wheels would fill out there rear.
The initial order for the SE package was placed July 2022, and it shipped to Shelby American October 2023. After a seven month wait, she landed back home to Mick in April 2024.
Mick and I had worked together on some wheels before the car went under the knife at Shelby American, so the foundation was already laid.
After some discussion about the desired visual outcome we spent a few weeks kicking back and forth ideas. Ultimately we settled on a set of our 21" Signature Wheel Flagship Series ONE. Adding in our custom center Venom center cap overlay was a must
Realizing that manufacturers and modification shops generally leave room on the table for wheel setups, I got some measurements pulled from the car and figured out what could be done. We landed on a 21x11 / 21x13 with Michelin Pilot 4S in a 305/355 combination. Dialing in some MASSIVE rear tire for this bad boy was a must, and really adds to the overall appearance.
Personally, this is a bucket list build. I knew the potential of the wide body was high, and it did not disappoint. The car turned out fantastic and Mick is pulling all kinds of thumbs up in traffic. At the end of the day these are your cars, and I am happy to help you build them how you want.
