So I received the Mishimoto Intercooler and Charge Pipe kit this past week and this weekend I spent most of Saturday putting them on my ecobeast in my parents' garage. The first thing you think when you first unbox all the parts is "damn this is some nice sh*t". Everything was well packaged, shiny and solid. Unlike the flimsy junk it is meant to replace.
Install:
The instructions from Mishimoto's youtube video is all I needed. There is one vid for the pipes and another for the intercooler so I had them both up while working on the car.
One of the most difficult parts of this install WOULD be those screws holding the front bumper on up above the wheel well but since I already broke my clips there when putting on my grille a few months ago that part was easy
Once you get the bumper off (which I would highly recommend doing) taking the stock intercooler off is just a matter of taking off a few screws, pulling off the charge pipes, moving a few pointless plastic peices out of the way and then lifting up the radiator so you have room to get the intercooler off of the mounts (because the radiator sits ontop of it). Once that's done sliding the Mishimoto intercooler into place is easy because it sits perfectly into the same mounting points as the OEM cooler. With all that done I then switched over to the charge pipe install video.
The most difficult part of getting the charge pipes on is figuring out the right angle to put the couplers onto the intercooler so that the pipes will fit correctly while they are connected at the throttle body and turbo. The first time around I thought I got everything right and then I took it for a test drive and the cold side pipe popped out of the coupler at the intercooler when I was at about 15psi lol. Luckily I was able to roll back down to the garage where I fixed the issue easily enough once I figured out the right angle for the coupler and I also most likely didn't tighten the T-bolt clamp enough the first time around. I should also note that I forgot to plug the power for the BOV back in so the noise it was making was already strange before the pipe popped out lol
Impressions:
I took it for a good 1hr drive and it does seem like I can hear the turbo spool more but I'm not 100% sure I'm not imagining it. I can say that it DEFINITELY feels more consistent now. After 13,000 miles on the stock cooler I had gotten used to getting in a few good pulls and then feeling my power disappear and babying it on hot days. I gave it a good thrashing on the highway and I felt no loss of power at all and it was about 85 degrees today. As for added HP from the charge pipes, I do want to say I feel a little more smoothness in the acceleration but again it's hard to tell what is real and what you're just imaging. Also the pipes look damn sexy in my engine bay
