The Tremec's 1st is 3.25:1, the MT82D4 is 3.23:1
My issue with the 4.09's isn't first, it's second... 2nd became the new 1st, but 3rd really woke up.

Can any of you folks help a nubie? I am not YET much of a motor head and this talk about changing gears and tunes and the how and why and where and for how much and to what affect... are mystic questions to me. Can anyone explain or point me at some good URLs where I can become slightly less of a bozo?

Thanks.

Not a bozo at all! We all start somewhere.

Changing ring and pinion gears is an old school way of increasing the force applied to the pavement by the tires. It's like putting a different size gear on a bicycle. Easier to start pedaling, but less top speed. Just google ring and pinion gears and start reading. The advent of computers being added to cars made it difficult because of the car expecting one thing but getting another.

Not what I would do. I would get a foreskin device which is about 30 bucks
Sounds painful and not sure I would be looking for a "deal".

Does this translate into more HP and potentially needing an appropriate "tune" flashed to your car?

It provides the same result (increase of force applied by the wheels to the road) as an increase in engine torque. It can be calculated based on the transmission ratio, ring and pinion ratio, and tire diameter.

Tuning is usually done to increase engine power but in the case of adding a ring and pinion to 2019+ cars, the computer needs to know because of the rev matching feature.

Fair to assume that doing the stuff, gear changing and tuning voids the warranty.

Not the entire warranty, just anything they can point at your mods and blame as the cause. If you’re concerned about warranty best to leave it all stock.

Reminds me of an old joke. Old Doctor retires after 30 years of giving circumcisions. Apparently he kept all of the foreskins he removed and gave them a leather smith to make something. Guy brings back a wallet.

"30 years of work - and all that for a wallet?" The old doc asks.

Leather guy looks at him and smile........."No worries Doc, rub it and it turns into a suitcase."
