They are playing mark up games on everything. Bronco, Super Duty Pickups, etc etc. And not just Fords.
I know -- ive been looking for a fun 2nd car since summer. Started with the GT350. Then a friend got a GT500 so I didnt want to seem like I was copying him. So then it was the RS3, but those had 10-15k markups. Then it was a Supra or wait for a Nissan Z. Those are getting 5k markups. Now im back to the GT350 or M1.

This isnt a daily driver. So maybe ill just get the GT350. There is a 2019 in PA (350 miles from me) for $63,900 with 6k miles. One owner. Bought, serviced and sold back to the same dealer. I like that. Just leary on buying a car so far away from me that I cannot see before buying.

We get so many mustangs at our shop that I've seen multiple versions of each including things like the Hennessey gt850, 350R, mach1, etc. I have to say I always fall back to the 350. Its just a pure racecar. I think power wise the 350 is perfect for the track and it was built track focused. The Mach 1 is just a collectors 5.0. 350 all day.

The M1 HP is more than just a "collectors 5.0 350". It will perform equally, if not better at the track than a GT350/R. The driving experience is definitely different, since the motor is the soul of a car. At the end of the day is reliability vs. sound. Pick your poison.

..... Thank God this isn't a wine tasting with varieties from the Gas and Go. "Our bottle has been tested to have just just as many grapes as your so called fancy pants French wines so therefore it must be just as much the consummate experience". Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and if.you've spent enough time with both, then whatever you decide to believe is your own personal right answer. But it may be an uphill battle to convince others who have done the same. These are both great cars but if a 1970 Mustang with a super motor wins a race would anyone think it is actually a better overall car?

Guess Lightning Lap was a mythical event then? Alternate universe? Wish they would run one with the auto/HP/rear seat delete and really shut down this debate.

0nly valid comparison would be same day, same time, same tires and same driver
The”R” time was back in 2016 at 2.51.8 and the M1 in 2022 at 2.51.4….
It’s completely meaningless. I have been many times on tracks, Laguna seca, Sears point, etc, with 350, 350R and M1 and i know which car is usually faster
Having a couple seconds laps differences at the same track from morning to afternoon or from 1 day to the next, is very common
Btw, caranddriver know very well that those comparisons, made years apart are meaningless but they are in the business to create buzz/make money, not to be “honest “
….update…. From my research, the 2016 350 R did not came with camber plates from the factory, but the M1 had them
That by itself would be worth a few seconds

Times have changed. You need a 911 for that in 2023. Maybe even for the last 20 years. Everything has gone up. :cwl:

Must have been a 70s thing cuz I ain't got no chicks hanging around me....or my Mach 1.
I was there in high school when this fugly MoFo was new, and the chicks were not hanging around it. Trans Ams were the deal and the late 60's usual suspects: Chevelles, Mustangs, Camaros.

OK, here's another take.
I don't like manuals. Take my man card, car guy card, etc.
Had a few over the years, prefer the simple two pedal approach.
Can't get a 350 with an auto.
M1 wins.

I only wish the M1 had some wider fenders rather than the wheel lip extensions.

It probably is more about the driver than about the car, now more than ever. And technical qualities of the circuit. Less straights, more curves and you'll beat the GT500 too 😁

If the debate was which car wins a given race with different drivers, I'd agree taking more of the drivers skill out of the match and equipping the car with an A10 would indeed give the M1 a big advantage, in the same way a retro fitted A10 in a GT350 tuned to shift and keep it in it's peak powerband would do the same

However the name of the thread "Mach 1 is better than GT350" is my debate. My point of view won't change if a M1 wins 10 times in a row. Great car, to be sure, but "better than a GT350" was the click bait and sorry, the best driver winning in a Camry isn't going to convince me of that either.

I'm sure a lot of us are die-hard fans of our cars or sports teams or whatever, and will back them regardless of whether they win the Super Bowl or not.
