I'm a Newbie. I just purchased a '15 ecoboost ragtop a few days ago. When I tried to remove one of the wheels I discovered that the lug wrench doesn't fit the lug nuts. I tried the wrench on all 20 lugs on the car. It is simply too small for the nuts on the car. The lugs appear to be the OEM nuts that came with the car (the 2-piece chrome lugs with the thin covers). The nuts do not appear swollen or distorted. The lug wrench just seems too small.

I tried various sockets and it looks like the lug wrench is 13/16" (or 21mm) and the lug nuts are 22mm. Is this typical? Does everyone discover that the lug wrench doesn't fit the lug nuts when you get a flat on the highway? I'm carrying a breaker bar with a 22mm socket on it in the trunk for now but there has to be a better solution.

Thx.

The lugs are garbage. They might not appear swollen, but they're probably deformed.

Replace them with Gorilla nuts.

If a 13/16" or 21 mm doesn't fit, they are definitely swollen. I would buy new lug nuts and take them to a shop to replace. That way, if there are issues removing them, the shop can deal with it.

Yeah a 21mm should fit, if you need a 22 they’re distorting, which can happen when people use impact tools on them, the stock lugs will last a while (but not forever) if you hand torque, but impact tools can trash them pretty quickly.

I can get them off, so that's not a problem. The problem is that they don't fit the lug wrench.

I stopped by the local auto parts store. They can get the McGuard 14x1.5mm lug nuts that fit the mustang BUT the packaging claims: '22mm hex. Will NOT fit OE Lug Wrench'. So I passed on those for now.

Are the Gorilla Lugs also 22mm? I need either 21mm or 13/16" in order for the lugs and wrench to match.

Thx.

Thanks all. I ordered a set of these ...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/401755857344

Cheaper than the Gorillas & shiny chrome. More to my liking. I hope. I'll post a review when I receive them. Scheduled for tomorrow. Stay tuned ...

So I received the new lugs. They're pretty nice. They have an identical appearance to the OEM lugs except where the nut meets the cone. But the best part is that they fit the @#$% lug wrench. They claim to be double chrome plated so they should hold up. Time will tell.
