Hi - My ‘65 GTO 4-speed(1:1 final drive ratio) with 3.55 gearing is turning 2500 rpm at 52 mph. Believe me, that’s not very friendly at freeway speeds either. Back then gearing around 3.20 was considered good for highway cruising. You are of course correct re. the flexibility of the 6-Speed tranny in the Bullitt. The 5-speed eventually came to the rescue for my generation. I’ve stated previously that I’ve always preferred tall gearing as I’m not into drag racing. I really like 3rd gear very much. I suspect I would probably also like 3.55 gears in the Bullitt, but I’d have to try It before stating emphatically so. This is a very driver friendly car, probably the best I’ve had including my former Vette... BruceIf I would have stayed NA on the Bullitt I would have done more than 4.09. Like Chris said, 4.56 or so. The 2 overdrive gears allow you this with no problems. Like a 4.10 in the 60s muscle cars with a 4 speed but with overdrive.
