Anyone use Nikon D3200 Camera. I have the DX series lens that came with it. I'm looking to upgrade the lens. Looking for something better. This lens range is 18-55. What would be a good step up. Not looking for long range lens. But better quality lens

Dude, lens upgrades are a big deal especially when first starting out with photography. I recently upgraded from a D5000 to a D7200 and I too am searching for quality lens upgrades.

First and foremost decide exactly what kind of photography you will most likely use the lens for. Portraits, landscapes, sports/activities, family gatherings, night time, astrophotography, so on. This is by far the most important consideration.

Budget is key after that. Quality lenses go for thousands of dollars in most cases.

Prime vs. Zoom.

A prime lens does not zoom, but for the price they can offer superior image quality. I recently picked up a 50mm F1.8G and it is amazing for portraits, nature, and even car photography, plus it was only $220 on Amazon.com. It is a perfect walking around lens.

That particular prime lens is not that good for landscapes at it has a too narrow field of view, and not good for astrophotography(like the moon) as it is too short.

A zoom lens can be good for many things, however the price will skyrocket. Search for the 'Holy Trinity' of lenses, 14-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm. Each of those has an aperture of f2.8 which is considered extremely good. You will notice their prices go from about $1,500-2,500!!

Bottom line advice, if you want a lens for general use look at the 35mm f1.8 or the 50mm f1.8. Around $200 with crystal clear image quality and nice bokeh(background blur).

The 35mm 1.8 is a game changing lens. Cheapest and best lens I own.

Hey guys sorry forgot all about the last few days. As my girlfriend of 3 years just moved out. So just been distracted.

Grimace. I mostly go to drag racing events and car shows. People are starting to get to know me and have been letting me get closer to the staging line wall. I just went to Cecil county Dragway for a track rental. Took a bunch of pictures and one got some national attention. http://www.stangtv.com/news/video-brad-guslers-ecoboost-mustang-is-creeping-up-on-the-9s/

I post pictures under my Hooligan Racing facebook page. Since i own the former project car of Muscle Mustang & Fast Ford Hooligan Hot Rod. But since the car has been more apart then together over the last few years. I have gotten into taking pictures at races.

This is why i am looking into getting abetter lens. So would a Prime lens be my better choice?

I am a nikon guy. I started with a d7000 and now shoot d750 and use the d7000 as a back up.

You have to decide if you plan on ever upgrading to full frame. If so, then a no brainer is to get the 50mm 1.4g. It is an FX lens and will work great on your dx.

If you plan on never upgrading, then get a 35mm 1.8.

Ok I'll be honest even though I have been taking pictures for a few years now. I'm still a Noob with all this stuff. What do you mean b Full frame?

Is there a site that I can read up on all this stuff?

Full frame means the camera's sensor is the same size as a 35mm film camera.

With that being said, nearly all entry level DSLR's are crop sensor and work a certain set of lenses. So double check compatibility before you get another lens.

Here are some more pictures I got from different NHRA event's. Was using a DX55-200mm lens. Eventually I'd like to upgrade in a long range lens. But I know some of these can be as much as $10,000. That is why I want to start with a smaller lens will be less money and I can then get to see what I like and don't like.

One from Englishtown last year.

Ok I think I will look into a full frame body. I got to really research this stuff. I'm really getting into just taking pictures.
