I never left the game! :) I just want a newer, nicer, non oil burning GT350, with warranty (and I'll never make the mistake of missing the window of extending the warranty). I'll treat her nicely and not daily drive it. Its too special and will go great in my stable.

At 74,000 miles now in my 2017.

Gotcha - sorry, it's hard sometimes to keep track of who still has theirs :)

You've been around here a while and you see what the prices are doing right now.... I'm not sure I'd be a buyer today - maybe wait a year..but who knows. Now with this new variant, could extend this shortage.

They are giving me 41k for my GT350 even with the miles ($59k msrp). So maybe that offsets some of the cost of the R? Or are they going for astronomical prices? I can certainly wait yes as GT350 offers most of the enjoyment of the R for now.

You'd need to roll the dice. If these prices don't come down, you might never get one...but right now, 2020 Rs are up there $95k+ with low miles. Perhaps you can find one with some miles.

74000 miles? That is impressive! I would love to hear about some of the maintenance issues you have run into along the way.

Or if he had any at all… IIRC, he stated in a separate thread that he has changed his own oil.

Maintenance issues? What maintenance issues? This car is pretty bullet proof - all things considered. I keep it outside 24/7 and that means lots of cold starts in 20F degrees. It wears snow tires in winter and does it climb those hills when SUVs are sliding backwards (not kidding). If it werent for Covid, I would have been at 85,000 miles right now. At 74,000 miles, it has the stock clutch, stock transmission fluid, stock motor mounts. I have done the plugs at 50,000 miles. Fuel filter every 25,000 miles. Cabin filter every 20,000 miles. Engine air filter every 25,000 miles (blue washable one, I clean every oil change). I changed oil 19 times total in 74,000 miles. I am still on stock rotors (34.7mm fronts and 25.2mm rears) and brake pads lasted till 63,000 miles. I have MGW shifter (for 70,000 miles), ford performance exhaust (65,000 miles), QA1 carbon fiber driveshaft (30,000 miles).

And it goes and it goes. Heel and toe never gets old. Its like marriage. Grumpy and unhappy mornings when transmission doesnt want to cooperate and cold start has a loud bark like my wife sometimes tells me she is not a morning person. On that note, this wouldnt have been possible if it werent for her support because she drives the GT350 about 60% of the time. Go to school and you have Suburban this GMC denali that cayenne here and Q7 there and here is our GT350 that turns heads.

The only real issue I had with the car was the hood corrosion. It was a nightmare with Ford’s body shop and took literally 4 months. Now everything is fine. Other than that radiator was changed once (but later found out it wasnt really needed to be changed), diff pinion seal had to be changed, A/C compressor changed. These three warranty repairs all took within the first 10-12,000 miles. No issues (apart from hood which is recent) the past 5 years. None.

The only non warranty repair were a driver side lower control arm ($120) and a main fuse in fuse box ($110). My total sum of out of warranty cost of ownership is $230 in 74,000 miles.

It has burned 1 qt 1,000 miles since day 1. It does so consistently even now. I no longer drive it hard or as hard as I used to because its our only “normal” car (next to GT3RS and C7 ZR1) and I dont want to be without a car if something does go wrong.

Let me know if you have any questions. The car is a tank.

Wow wow wow. Thank you so much for a great reply. You, good sir, have made me really look forward to putting the miles on this beauty. Awesome.
Thanks again.

there is no definitive proof the 19-20's have better (ie, less) oil consumption. it's all hearsay. my 18R never had a single drop of oil. never had to add a single drop between annual oil changes. always between the hash marks when checking the dip stick. mine was a late 18 build so it had the upgraded ring packs but regardless plenty of non oil consuming 16s and 17s and 18s out there and many 19s and 20s with oil consumption too. i've never chimed in on this but finally had to. rant over.

While I have read about 16/17s not consuming oil in some cars, I dont think I have read 19/20s that consume oil.

Oh yeah, where? This isn't something that has come up for a while but I believe it was 18+ saw piston and ring package change.
