Not getting entirely off of the subject, but did your MT82-D4 break on you? If so, what happened?

Yessir it did, & I was racing off a 40 roll & as soon as I went 2-3(didn’t miss)I heard a loud pop from the transmission & lost 3rd & 4th & started to hear a knocking noise on the drive home. 1256 we’re still good till the next day when it locked all the way up

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the MT82-D4. I just started tearing mine apart yesterday. I didn’t have any known issues with it, other than a slipping clutch, but I figured while it was out, I might as well upgrade what I can in it.

Seeing you have a 2018 (according to your profile), its most likely blown shift forks - which is a known issue with the trans and TSB's were issued by Ford about that ...

I blew my d4 at 15k. Faulty input shaft bearing.

Did the dealership rebuild or replace it? How bad was the damage?
Didn’t take it to dealer. Just end up getting one myself because I wanted to keep the old to rebuild over the winter.

I attached a video of my input shaft play. At idle it sounded like a rod knock. 4K rpm in 4th gear massive vibration which my knock sensors would pick up thinking it was a random miss fire.

That doesn’t sound and look normal to me. I can see how the knock sensors could possible identify that as a sign and pull timing.

I did take it to ford but they kept trying to tell me it was my clutch. Garnet ford in PA to be exact. I couldn’t believe their master tech was 100% telling me it was my clutch. That’s why I just did it all myself

I hear ya! I’m so tired of people making excuses to get out of doing work it’s ridiculous. That’s awesome that you forged ahead and did it yourself! I have that same mindset. The good thing about doing it yourself is you’re going to exercise care in doing the work. Sure there may be a hiccup or two along the way, but that’s okay. We just try and keep those to a minimum as much as possible, lol.

I am curious as to what condition your clutch and flywheel assembly were in? I remove the outer clutch plate to see what it looked like underneath and here’s what mine looked like at 6K miles.

No where near that and I had 12k on mine. I’ll try and dig up a picture
