yeah. still dumb. EPA is retarded.
I don't disagree that the EPA can get carried away ... but without some sort of regulation we'd be breathing the same kind of toxic air they breathe in China.

Like you said, some sort of balance or compromise that looks at the big picture is what is needed.

i seriously doubt that little filter is causing the 10 hp reduction. if i had a 22 i would replace the intake with an injen and get a flex tune and run e85. boom you are now close to 500 hp at the crank.

I wonder where they hid that on the Mach 1
The only physical difference I have seen is the location of the MAF in the air tube. Recently I purchased an air tube of a 350, it does not have the additional compartment on the it. Not sure the technical name, but it is an additional place to hold air, located on the bottom of the tube. Link below on some of my original questions

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/21-22-intake-tube-designs.175190/#post-3545743

This weekend, Im going to swap them out and see if anything is inside the 22 tube, and also see if it will run properly with the 350 tube.

I apologize for the [hopefully] mini-hijack but it seemed like a good time to ask: what happens if one does exactly as you suggest above with the injen and flex tune but suddenly canā€™t find any E85?

You run it on pump gas since it's a flex tune

flex tune allows you to run any percentage of e85 even down to 0%.

With the HP being down for 22. I've discovered one change that can hinder power.

I've heard a change in Cats and carbon filter in the intake. I've discovered said filter.

I have a '22 as well, and will be looking at this today. Personally, there's no doubt in my mind the biggest restriction is not the carbon trap filter material. Look at the actual engine air filter size and look at how the volume (area) has been minimized with the carbon filter "compartment and bracing". It's like having a 100mm MAF but with a 65mm throttle lol

Honestly if not for the emissions rules we wouldnā€™t have gdi, vvt, the 10r80, and turbochargers on most cars. These were chiefly done for fuel economy.
If it wasn't for the manufacturers spending billions of engineering and development dollars on that stuff, they may have come up with something far better.

Itā€™s possible, but they didnā€™t see the monetary incentive when they had the chance. We know from watching what they did from the late 70ā€™s until the early 90ā€™s that they were extremely resistant to clean-sheet designs and stuck with lame old tech with minimal improvements because it was cheap and we were happy to buy a 225 hp 305 because at least it wasnā€™t a 160 hp 350 or worse. Itā€™s only when fuel economy regs forced their hands did they actually start developing and releasing the tech we benefit from today.

This is my UK '22 airbox lid - looks like they left the UK cars alone this year after they were reduced to 450 HP in 2018 when GPF's were fitted

There's no way to predict a different path of what could have happened with any certainty.

It's just as possible that without the EPA meddling, we might have ended up at this point with better cars.

ā€¦. And what are your metrics for ā€œbetter ā€œ ?
We know with certainty that it is profit that drive business, do you really think that cars would have airbags for example if not for government regulations?
We know that the answer is no because when Gm came with an optional airbag in the 70ā€, it was a total marketing failure and was canceled after a couple of years

These are surely costing some power. The M3/M4 guys take these out of their cars asap. Some of those guys think removing the charcoal filters and putting BMC filters in to replace the factory paper air filter is as good as you can do power wise, short of installing front mount air filter systems.
