Remember that the different oil specs change

WSS-M2C931-B was the old spec

Then WSS-M2C931-C, and now WSS-M2C931-D

Each spec meets the previous specification requirements

But what is in the spec?

A lot of it is stuff like how much zinc of phosphorus can the oil have (for the catalytic converters to have a long life). And the new D spec is basically changes in the additive package to reduce LSPI (low speed pre-ignition) in today's DI (direct injection) engines.

A lot of the previous euro spec oils, for example, didn't meet this. And some oils like Castrol GTX which would be recommended by companies like BMW or Porsche had too much zinc to meet the C spec!

Does that make them bad oils? No. lThe GT350 doesn't have DI so you don't have to worry about the D spec, for example.

And the owners manual doesn't even require you to use oil that meets the Ford spec, just API SN+ spec.

We recommend Motorcraft® motor oil for your vehicle. If Motorcraft® oil is not available, use motor oils of the recommended viscosity grade that meet API SN PLUS requirements and display the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines.

The current spec for the Voodoo is WSS-MSC931-E1

Nobody that uses Amsoil will ever speak bad about it because they are a network of sales people.
Most people don’t speak about it (myself included) because literally every single person I know that’s anti-Amsoil is only such because of their marketing. They never show to the conversation with imperical evidence, bad lab results, etc. Plus, it’s an oil debate. Pick your battles. The anti-Amsoil crowd typically has their mind made up, and that’s a-ok.

I will add, based on my homework, if I didnt use Amsoil across the board, my next selection would be Motul.

That's exactly the reason i don't buy it. I have no idea if it's good or not. To me, oil is oil is oil. I just finally switched from Motorcraft to Mobil 1 with this oil change.

My point was that for anyone who suggests it, they are typically selling it. Why Amsoil chose this direction, dunno. 🤷‍♂️

As far as I can tell, Amsoil's a good, perhaps great, product. I don't use it because on their specialty products, they don't actually claim to meet specific specs. Rather, their labels just say that they "recommend" their oil for the spec you need. Very strange.

The thing is, I've learned over a couple of decades that most oil is just oil. Meets a spec, does the job, all is well. BUT, last year, just for fun, I tried Mobil 1 Supercar 5w50 in the Voodoo. It's the first oil I've run in anything that actually made the engine quieter. I'm guessing that some kind of noise damping was required for the C8 FPC engine, so this oil was built with it. The engine also tends to run a bit hotter with it, particularly when running slowly on the highway. On track - temps are normal. On the drive home, crawling along in traffic on an 80 degree afternoon, I'll see 230 degrees. Also, very strange. I'll have a UOA sometime in the next month or so, so I'll know a bit more about it.

Not completely true. They do make oils specific to some manufacturers specs. The Signature Series stuff supposedly exceeds all of these standards (depending on weight for the application)

Yeah @526 HRSE , I don’t know why they have this business model either, but I can tell you it works.

It is my understanding that for oils to label meeting all these manufacturers specific specs, they have to pay a membership fee so to speak. They pay for all the lab testing to stack up against this spec. Sometimes, Amsoil doesn’t play that game. Does it mean the oil doesn’t meet spec? Absolutely 100% not. They just don’t want to pay the cost of entry. In most cases, an aftermarket product will faaarr exceed that requirement.

And here’s another key thing to remember when people running around touting meeting a manufacturers spec…that spec is the minimum requirement to wear that label.

Same thing with "top Tier Fuel" labels at the pump. The distributor has to pay to get that designation, but the fuel comes from the same refinery as everyone else's.

Can Amsoil come close to the price of Mobil 1? $7 a quart?

Define close.

For you and others building the case why you guys don’t use Amsoil, the answer is nope, it does not. $11.20 my price.

Well, some people are happy to exchange "piece of wallet" for "peace of mind". :)
I don't have an issue with what other people run in their cars, but amsoil would not give me peace of mind.

Just curious why Amsoil wouldn't give you peace of mind? I've run RP, Mobil 1, and Pennzoil mostly in my 2015 GT PP and been happy with them all. I ran Amsoil only once and it was fine. I'd continue to do so but it is so hard to get. I've called the retailers on their site near me and every single one said they stopped carrying it.
Still, it is a respected brand, so what makes you nervous about it, and (sorry if I missed this as I did read the entire thread) what would you run instead and why?
