Okay gotcha thanks..I have a 21 TRD Venture 4runner (white) also. It does not tow as well as the Tacoma due to the shorter wheelbase and 5 speed automatic. But it will get the job done even though my setup would be a few hundred pounds over 5,000. I have not towed with the 21 venture, but previously had a 2016 SR5 (blue) and towed this car and trailer numerous times. 21 and 16 are the same with respect to towing. It towed fine locally, but I wouldn't do a great distance with it. Just make sure you have a good trailer brake controler. I run a Red Arc unit on the Tacoma and it's awesome. It would be the exact same install on the 4Runner. The 4runner will squat a bunch as the tongue load is lighter than tacoma. Just make sure you have your weight distributed on the trailer appropriately.
So to recap the 4runner will tow an S550 on an aluminum trailer well. The Tacoma is superior in every way though.
4runner is a 4.0 with 5spd AT, 5000lbs towing, Tacoma is 3.5 with 6spd AT, 6400lb towing.
So I'm guessing you have to account for the weight of the car, plus the trailer when towing?
I have a soft spot for the 4Runner, because they look so cool and I like the off-road capabilities. I just like off-road SUVs more than pick up trucks. I am planning on getting one next year but I know its going to be redesigned soon so I keep going back and forth. I really would like it to be able to tow my mustang to the race track, so that I don't get stuck there if something bad happens I always felt like the lower towing capacity with the 4Runner is pushing it to tow a Mustang, really hope that its increased for the next gen.
