I thought I read that chassis numbers and VIN numbers don't necessarily go in order, is that true?
Adam, of the 6 MY's it was only the 2015 GT350/R's whereby the VIN and Chassis Number had a direct correlation to each other.

Of the 137 2015 GT350/R's produced during July of 2015 the first 37 cars were all R models with Bill Ford getting VIN "F5520001" with that car being assigned chassis number "F0001".

Also note that only the 2015 R's did not indicate an "R" in the chassis number whereas all 5 subsequent years after that did.

After the 37 R models were built then came the next 100 GT350's which was made up of 50 Track Pack cars and 50 Tech Pack cars with my VIN being "F5520080" and chassis number "F0080".

Once the 2016 MY began for the GT350/R's VIN's and Chassis Number correlation went out the door with everything being random.

VIN's are typically assigned 2 to 4 weeks prior to assembly whereas the Chassis Numbers are assigned as each vehicle comes down the FRAP assembly line in random order.

It is my understanding that very early on a female factory line worker was responsible for assigning and stamping out the appropriate chassis number for each GT350/R and that a log was kept by that person for all future use and reference but have no idea where that all sits in recent times.

I also understand that the very last Mustang to be assembled will be on Wednesday, December 23rd but don't quote me on that as that may have changed or might not be factual.

What I do know is that the very last 2020 R model was assembled with the HEP option and will go to Bill Ford.

As @Scoobs mentioned there is no way to determine a chassis number for any of these cars unless you have a set of eyes on the FRAP production line therefore your buddy will just have to wait for his car but wish him luck with being the very last GT350 built or at least should be one of the very last produced!

That’s very interesting stuff, thank you for passing that along. That being said I do have a little knowledge of the assignment of vin numbers and their relationship to the timing of the actual build. Be careful how you delineate who supposedly keeps or kept a log of past or current info related to chassis number, the political police might come looking.
To be clear, this is being said tongue in cheek.
