Extra points for the grass, dirt and wheel borough in the background!

What are you doing with this? Gave me an idea... Years ago, I built a Boss302 engine for my Coyote coupe swap from scratch...I mean every nut and bolt and it was much cheaper than buying the assembled engine from anywhere. Predator powered GT350R anyone?

Haha...yeah, it's out in my shed double bagged until I can get it to the fabricator for mock up then machined and built.

Plan is a 65 Falcon Drag Week turbo build. I know I'm in the wrong forum for that type of car, but this is the only site where there is any decent tech on 5.2L Coyotes.

FYI, that is a voodoo block not a Predator block. Voodoo has oil squirters fed from mains, as you can clearly see in your pics. Predator has valley fed squirters and milled areas on block interior for larger rod big ends/bolts.

Other than that, same block.

Thanks. I changed the thread title and the designator.

Cool to see the block in the raw.

I can tell you - I ordered everything from Ford and Ford Racing... The rods and pistsons came assembled already and were dirt cheap....same for the crank - awesome part for like $242 (this was like 8 years ago). Main point is, I didn't need to machine anything - it all fit. All I did was measure the bores and the pistons to make sure I wasn't putting the smallest piston in the biggest hole and vice-versa. Engine ran flawlessly.

Of course, that's a coyote block (sold as a boss 302 block by Ford Racing back then but it was the same thing)... but just goes to show, the way the sold the parts was awesome, all ready to assemble. Only trick was you had to buy specific bearings based on a combination of the crank designation and the block casting numbers. The service manuals had all the information that you needed.

Thanks.

I'm really curious to see if the current available parts can be assembled as cleanly and at a similar monetary benefit :) Will watch this one.

Do you remember roughly what the price savings was?

This was probably 8 years ago and the boss was pretty new....but I remember building the long block for about $7k - when the same engine assembled from Ford was close to $15k. When it came to the valvetrain, 32 of everything really ate into that budget.

Here are 2 short blocks being built with the Voodoo block .
Front block has Boss crank and the one in the rear has Voodoo crank .
I cant tell the difference from the pics but maybe the resident experts can .

regarding cost ... let’s just say including labor the 5.2 /Gen 3 long block is going to cost much less than the Ford performance Gen 3 alluminator and have much much better internals (Wiseco rods /JE pistons ).

I also have another long block build more similar to the alluminator (same block/pistons but H tuff rods instead ) that is even less since the coyote block can be had for $800 ..
