Instead of cutting the wire, I'm going to buy a pin extractor, it'll collapse the pin locking tab and allow you to pull the wire out. Then just tape over the pin. This will allow you to plug it back in for that original factory $hitty sound if you desire. Here is the link, there are good instructions on how to use it, and only $11.00. Plus now I will have that tool in my tool box

A small jeweler's screw driver with the end filed down thin will also work.

I tested this out yesterday with a couple of mousepads and there was a noticeable difference, the sound is a lot more shrill or harsh to my ears with the center speaker, I snipped the wire, it's a lot better now.

just did it to my 2016. squeezed the white collar holder on both sides and it pops out. I use a really thin needle tool/pick to push on the the wire terminal retainer as pictured on Page 8 but the wire wouldn't budge. I used my needle to push on middle terminal contact until it wouldnt budge about half way deep. Then I pushed all around edges of the wire terminal until it finally pops out. While doing this, make sure to pull on the wire from the other end to help it along whenever possible.

I used tool #4 in this pic:

A slightly thicker pick(or the proper tool) would have fit and probably would've been better contact with the terminal retainer and came out much quicker.

Sound is much improved and I can now tune up the mid/highs without it sounding awful.

I forgot about this thread. you separate the clip apart, then I simply pushed the pin out with like a thin poker majiggy. ive had half my pins out a dozen times now.

I finally got around to pulling the center speaker from my Bullitt. I used the method shown in this video and it worked perfectly without causing any damage. I know GTP had mentioned earlier that he was concerned about damaging the metal grill and therefore opted to gut the green wire at his amp, but the method shown in the video leaves absolutely no marks on the grill or dash trim edges.

There’s a tag on it that says it’s an 8ohm 12.5W speaker.

In the new cars can't you just turn off the center speaker?

There is a setting on the radio screen that allows you to turn surround sound on or off. I tried it and while it sounds better off than on, it sounds even better with the speaker removed.

Has anybody here replaced that speaker instead??? It's used for nav and BT, I think, so I want to keep it. Besides, it doesn't really bother me now with surround ON, but need to remove the damn dash again to eliminate a new rattle, so might as well make an upgrade, so I don't break stuff again in vain. Ha ha.
