Can anyone confirm that Ford is not pumping fake engine noise through the speakers? Sometimes I get the sense that it is but have not found anything on this topic. So many manufacturers are doing this now so it would be a shame if that was the case on the 350. Thank you for the replies

Heard it stopped as of MY19 (with the intro of B&O) but haven't been able to confirm.

“Despite all these tricks, you can't always tune every unwanted sound out of an engine. Be it complex secondary harmonics or just a weird groan, every engine has its quirks. That's why, as we listen to a Shelby GT350 crossing 6000 RPM, Teknos smiles.

The 2018 model, he explains, had an annoying droning around 6000 RPM. At his recommendation, 2019 versions got the active noise-canceling system he showed off in the GT500. Now, you can cross 6000 RPM without hearing any change in character.”

Believe the point here is not the natural engine noise; it's the fake noise piped through the speakers, which can be turned off using Forscan...

Yes, and I posted that because the “fake engine noise” being discussed is the “active noise canceling system” that the article discusses as canceling out the “weird groan” that the GT350 has at 6,000 rpm and when it was implemented, “2019 Gt350r” and later.

My post is not concerning the natural engine nosies.

Further, my post answers when the noise canceling was implemented in the GT350 and what it is actually doing: it’s not adding noises that are not natural to enhance the sound, it is canceling out an unwanted sound.

Definitely a good article. But as I understand it, 2015-2018 had noise enhanced via the speakers. Could be the power of suggestion, but everyone who disabled it via Forscan (including me) noted a quieter ride. Also, those who changed stereos noted interference from the enhancement. As I read the article, cancellation is part of the 2019+, "...2019 versions got the active noise-canceling system he showed off in the GT500." Either way, based on my own experience, I would recommend using Forscan on MY15-18 to eliminate whatever Ford did to help the engine sound better inside the cabin. Don't have enough time in my '19 yet to make a recommendation on that.

Active noise cancellation does not add sound into the passenger cockpit. ANC produces sounds waves that counter certain unwanted noise such as unwanted engine noise, tire noise etc. Bose had been doing it with Honda & Acura for over a decade. The point is ANC does not pump in fake engine noise.

So the engine noise I’m hearing is real?

I can't speak for most other GT350/R owners but can assure you that Ford is not pumping fake engine noises through the speakers of my car based on the fact that my car simply does not have any speakers in order to do that.
