Is Pitt Race or Mid-Ohio considered a high abrasion track?

Pitt Race is fairly aggressive on tires. Not the worst, but it will take a toll on rubber. Never been to mid-ohio.

When are you planning to go there?

Subscribed. I ran there twice in 2010, one a wet weekend, another a dry weekend. Turn 13 was like a washboard and off-camber. But fun. The rest of the track was smooth back then. So smooth that track day was called off mid-day due to so many wrecks on the (WET) smooth surface.

Pitt Race - Last year I noticed that the wet line was the same as the dry line. This was confirmed by instructors.
And I corded all 4 summer tires that really had plenty of tread left.

I've never noticed either track as that hard on tires compared to any other track. Maybe PittRace is a little harder on brakes per lap than MidO.

By the looks of those tires, a tire temp probe and some camber work would be a wise investment.

I've got temp and camber handled, thanks. You can see in the photo that cording was on both shoulders.

But I did experiment with lower pressures (mid 30's) for a couple sessions, and I regret it. I'm concluding (based on tire wear) that I like higher pressure (high 30's, low 40's) than most guys in the paddock recommend.

I guess the purpose of my post question is if the shoulder wear was due to my choice of pressure, or an especially abrasive surface. (Note that the wet line being the same as dry line was a clue.)

Pitt Race destroys tires. Their track is gritty and I destroyed the outside and inside of the my supercar3rs. They also had a ton of rubber slag off the race line-more than most.

Mid Ohio was repaved and was super smooth and no issues with tire wear. I did a three day event there and didn't notice any tire wear. I am contemplating not going back to PittRace because of my experience with tires there. Both tracks (the track themselves) are fantastic and PittRace has probably one of the nicest paddocks. Mid Ohio might have the worst paddock.

Just make sure to rotate tires (midday) and bring extra fronts if you can and of course keep an eye on them at PittRace.

These are precisely my experiences and it's nice to hear someone else confirm them. Thanks.

I've run many times at Pitt Race and can confirm it's HARD on tires. Very hard compared to Mid Ohio and Nelsons Ledges. I remember going to Mid Ohio the first time last season after the repave and noticing how smooth everyone's tires were thinking are these dudes just not driving hard or what? A few sessions later my tires were all cleaned up with no grain at all. Pitt Race is tough, man.

Pitt Race basically cost me an extra $1400 for a weekend last year, the price for a new set of summer tires. My PS4s had 6/32 tread left but they got corded at both inside and outside shoulders.

Putnam Park used to shred tires until after they repaved a few years ago. Same with Mid-Ohio I heard.

I really love the layout at Pitt and had so much fun last year. I want to go back to Pitt so bad on wide Cup2s this year, but I don't dare.

Years ago I corded a fresh set of PS4's just like you did. It's very easy to over drive the front tires at Pitt Race. I've changed my strategy and can get fairly even wear with regular rotations, but it still chews through tread.

"Strategy" = driving style / tire pressure / or ?
