Well all is well... Ford Engineering told the service dept. that the amount of flake was normal and the filter was likely not installed properly at the factory. Below is what i have for photos, sorry about the first 2 service dept pics.

Yes I have the old filter and it will stay on a shelf, as is, for a couple of years, that i'm sure of... She's back in the nest no more strangers touching her in the near future.

Service Dept. has ordered a new housing.

I assume someone will eventually talk to and hopefully train, the person installing the filters. It's only a matter of time before this isn't an easy fix for someone.

I can see the filter getting twisted if they are installing them dry during production. I have a 2017 Lincoln MKZ that has the plastic version of this filter FL2062. They fit pretty tight on both the plastic canister and on the engine and without oil they would twist easily during installation. This might be something that needs changed/checked almost immediately.
Filter isn't going to twist, not even with poor install, due to its metal inner sleeve and 1 exterior metal fin.

It sure got crushed. How was the locator at the bottom of the filter housing?

@SNOOPY The plastic alignment in the bottom of the housing was broken, a new one is on order.
Did they put a new filter back in the old damaged housing and release the car?

Yes, I guess a piece was broken/cracked on the alignment end, but they say not enough to negatively affect anything, but replacement is on the way regardless.

Good news Andy. Definitely get the replacement installed sooner than later. Be safe, and enjoy that beautiful car.
