Wondered what thoughts were out there on building a GT350 to compete with the new GT500 on HPDE. What would it take? Anyone doing something like this. I'm not in the position to buy a new GT500 right now, I would rather pick up a slightly used one. Take a Gt350, supercharge or twin turbo, to get the additional horsepower, take some new parts out of the 2019 bin, modify the suspension, I know it won't have the DCM but the standard is fine for this application. Any thoughts?

As cool as the Gt500 is, I can’t stomach adm’s. It’ll be a couple years before there gone I’m guessing. I’m going down the path your talking about. I’m trying to decide to go supercharger or twin turbo. I’m leaning towards turbo’s to be able to keep the appearance under the hood.

It will cost you more in the end and you wont have a warranty... soo no:). Stretch for the GT500 if you are patient in 8 to 12 months you will find one with little to no ADM.

But I already have a paid off 2016 Track Pack so warranty is over. So it's just the cost of the upgrades. I will eventually get a gt500 for my collection but in the meantime, I feel the need for speed.

You can build the voodoo engine (even sleeve it ) so it’s as “bullet proof “ as possible and will last under boost for less than most think .
My 2016 tech car has a built/sleeved motor for boost and I have a Gen 3 whipple on it .
(Also building another voodoo so I have a spare just in case )
Currently down to 3.25 grip tech pulley and I suspect it’s making close to 900 at the wheels .
I have an upgraded spec clutch (SS) , CF one piece drive shaft and return fuel system / ID 1300’s for E85 .
I probably have about $25K in to the car and it’s close to getting paid off .
You can debate if I would have been better trading it for a GT 500 ... if you can get one without ADM .

So here is a thought/ question

They say the 2020 upgrades to the GT350R includes that the front end is that of the GT500,

"the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R's revised steering geometry, which uses a revised front steering knuckle to increase caster trail and improve steering confidence and precision, but that was before we'd driven it. We've now driven two cars with the revised geometry and can say confidently that one of the Shelby's significant problems—a tendency to stubbornly follow road ruts on uneven roads—is much improved." (from Car and Driver)

Is that something that could be swapped in easily to the 2019 GT350 (non R?). Would that totally screw the modes/presets?

put lower comp pistons in so the motor has a better chance to survive. But who and why are you trying to "race" at an HPDE event? If Randy can drive your car faster than you, then work on the meat bag in the seat.

I would upgrade the rods while the motor is apart .

I did the Manley voodoo specific H rods as I bent a couple of stock rods before I built mine .You could do the lighter Callies for a little bit more.

I kept my stock compression ,since I run E85 exclusively , with coated diamond pistons .

Block had to be sleeved as the plasma lining was damaged but you could also upgrade (or reuse block if not damaged ) to the predator block for the same cost as sleeving.

Heads need at least spring upgrade and studs .
I already had he billet OPG/CS before rebuilding the motor.

With discount as repeat customer(different CP build earlier with Gen 2 voodoo block ) I was out about $7k with long block shipped to my door .
Add another $1500 for clutch upgrade , and no additional labor .
I already had a CF driveshaft before the build .

No plans for HPDE(never been and I am POOR) but plenty fun on the street (no racing), very rare strip and should be good for low 10’s(at least ) if I have driver mod.

Can you hook up that power?

No problem hooking with drag radials .

it’s iffy with the stock tires below third gear depending on temps and how much throttle .

It’s too risky trying to just floor it to WOT on the street but if you roll into it in fourth its fine (that how I get my logs on the street in 50 degree) .

Only thing I am racing is time, in more than one way......
