My Porsche has the 7 speed dual clutch transmission and after you drive that for awhile, it's hard to go back to a conventional automatic or manual transmission. It requires servicing to replace filters and oil, which is not cheap. But the transmission is designed to last the life of the car and you should never have to replace a clutch. The Porsche unit has had some issues with heat buildup that causes electronics to fail and requires the entire unit to be replaced. This appears to occur primarily with cars that are tracked. I would guess this would less of a problem for the owner with a Ford.
