Why can't you send Tire Rack tires to a Discount Store for mounting? With Tire Rack you basically get a two year certificate for free. The tires are the same price at both places.

I have a set of Velgen Classic5's coming with a 20x10 for the front. Should it be 285/30x20 or will a 295/30 work better? I want the overall diameter to be closer to the 315/30 rear tires (11" wheel) that's why I'm wanting the 295 width.

Discount isn't listed on the Tire Rack website. I guess that's what I get for ass-u-ming...haha Thanks for the info!

Discount owns TireRack and will match what may be on the site, along with any benefits; or thus they did for me. I get the question, just don't see the need to buy from TireRack. If you have a Discount, just go there and get them. I just went through this and the OTD cost was the same regardless.

I was wanting the added assurance of the cert.s offered by Tire Rack. Granted it's two years instead of three but it's free instead of a 10% premium for the Discount cert.s If Discount matches this then I will be more than happy to buy from Discount...in fact I prefer to since the prices are indeed the very same on their respective websites.

I wouldn’t go bigger than 285 on a 10” rim IMO.

You can run 305/30R max all around. See the attached. I run staggered but have 305/35Rs on the rear using a 19x10 wheel.

I've always operated that if you're staggering, you go down in aspect ratio from front to back - so a 35 series on the front if you're running a 30 on the rear. But a 285/35 puts you at 27.8 inches tall and that's a bit tall imo. But I'm also on a square setup so I don't have to worry about that lol

285 is typically the recommended max width for a 10" wheel - anything bigger usually leads to a less handling oriented setup as it introduces some slop due to bulge.

All I'm seeing is 305 on a 10.5" wheel, no mention of a 10" wide wheel period. Which makes sense as Ford doesn't offer a 10" wide wheel from the factory.

I must be reading that document wrong, because I don't see any indication they say 10" wheel and 305 width tire.

It doesn’t. Just a reference to the max tire width

I just bought Velgen VF5s in 19x10 front and 19x11 rear. I’ll be running 275/35/19 front and 295/35/19 rear. You’re much better off to be slightly stretched than slightly bulged as @rxryanm pointed out. Healthy difference in handling between the two.

As for the slop; I have the Steeda front and rear sway bars. Front in the med-hard (3rd) hole and the rear in the full soft. I could move that up one to the medium setting to induce some oversteer. Will this counter the slop? I'm ass-u-ming (again) that the slop might manifest itself as understeer with added sponginess for good measure???

I've played with that darn tire comparison calculator so much lately my eyes are numb! :)

A couple considerations I'm dealing with. I'm getting a s/c and I want the most tire out back I can get. I originally wanted a square 305 on 19x11's but wasn't sure I would be able to tuck the front tire in up top w/out camber plates.. I already have a square set up now w/ 275's on the factory 19x9.5 Bullitt wheels (PP1 specs) so the extended studs and slip-on spacers are already in use.

The next thought was to go w/ 20's but was disappointed to learn the 305/30x20 would lower the car almost 5/8" ( I think that was the number). I have headers now and can't really see the car getting much lower w/out causing all kinds of chaos under there.

In the world of 20" tires, the 305's cost considerably more than the 315's. The 315/30 will keep me near my 27.7" (I think it's actually 27.4 for the 315/30) OA tire diameter so as not to lower the car any more than it is now. Once again the rear of the S550 is very accommodating. It's the darn front end throwing the monkey wrench.

You don't have any bigger contact patch with a wider tire. All you get is more weight and reduced responsiveness.

If that sort of thing floats your boat, go for it. Also, discount and tire rack are remaining 2 completely separate companies.

Can you explain this? If that is the case then I should just stick with the 275's?
