You will be insane to take a convertible, without any roll over protection, to a race track
No serious organizations would allow that.
I had a race and track club for over 20 years and saw a lot of carnage
The white Mustang was one of my race cars for many years and the Miata owner was bitching that my club forced convertible to have roll over protection…. Guess what, surely saved his life

I have never see a Mustang Vert on track, they have always been Coupes.
Considering that Ford have never managed to fix the Hood flutter at 130+, how does the ragtop hold up..?
On my vert it seems OK for me thus far up to 140+. I do have a roll bar for the track.

A 4 point roll bar is required for the club I run with. On that note, I've never seen a vert run with the top up ... I see nothing in the rule book about it, but it might be something to consider.

Update: thanks to everyone for their help and feedback on this subject. I started in this forum 3 some years back when I knew for sure I was going to get my Mustang GT and it's been a great source of information/help/encouragement plus a community to share the experience of being a Mustang owner. I always appreciate the time and care folks take to help others here.

Now I have some fun stull to learn about, plan on and maybe do for the up coming driving season of '22.

Trust me I am a safety first type guy, get the gear then have fun. Whether a track/event required one or not, I'll have one anyway. Also a top quality helmet and necessary gear (shoes, etc,), tow hooks, etc. I have read that some of these events you will not drive very fast, like SCCA's Track Night in America being it's for anyone with a decent working car, helmet and license. For the HPDE events my tracks I've looked up all require rollbars for convertibles, understood.

Unless track night is different at the track where you’re running, I assure you it’s wide open after your first yellow flag session for beginners. And even more cause for concern is the beginners are on track with no instructor

I wouldn’t go near a track without a welded roll bar in a convertible.

I'm really confused on the chain of events that produced this one. Please tell the story if you remember. That's an unusual spot to end up.

Yes, the guy was going over T1/under the bridge at Laguna, a car passed him on the right and he kind of freaked out and instead of staying on the line, he put too much steering input and lost control of his car and started spinning

Ya, OK, that's kind of what it would take. Too bad for whoever, but at least he did it to himself.

Well you can have camber put in at a tire shop to a limit. Trouble is that its way too much for the street. Camber plates allow more camber and generally you can change it yourself at the track.
Get a good helmet and driving gloves
