I spun a bearing on new motor. I need help with how to proceed with a new short block?

Does the lower compression in the predator allow more wiggle room for tighter ring gap?

It must because Ford is using very tight gaps in the Predator.

i don't think it is the lower compression that allows the tighter ring gap

how far down the rings are from the combustion chamber plays a big role

Look at those radial grooves between the rings.
Right out of the Wiseco 2-Stroke, ProStock and Winston Cup piston playbook from so long ago.

Is Wiseco the only North American piston company that does in house forging from bar stock. Whereas everybody else purchases semi-finished blanks from Aluminum Precision Products or Precision Forge.

@GregO my thoughts exactly. As I tore down the gen3 I was thinking…cap screws in rods…bronze bushed floating pins…coated skirts…huge domes…steel crank…everything we did to race motors 20 years ago.

Again, we going back 40 years?

Hmmm, I never had a piston manufacturer be "quite clear" that 4032 pistons will have longer piston life than 2618's. Just who was the maker that made that claim? And what was their definition of a longer life?

I also never knew anyone who cursed their 2618's for wearing out too fast, and then switched to 4032's.

I’ve ran 2618’s in 4-5 40+K mile builds in the last 28 years. None of them sounded like diesels or only “lasted” 20K miles. My current 2618’s have ALMOST zero slap on cold start. Most people don’t hear it…. .0045” PTW.

Fyi predator/gt500 pistons vs gen3 coyote. I’m pretty sure predator pistons are forged.

Some real ingesting info in this thread.

FWIW, OP, I have Mahle 2618 forged pistons in my motor right now and yes, they make noise on a cold start for 3-4 minutes at idle until the car is warm. Further, the "2k rattle" is pretty loud for the first 30 min driving the car around. A little annoying if im honest.

Its interesting to see the Predator piston above. Look at how they increased the skirt area/size at bottom of the piston -- assuming they did this to reduce the rocking piston in the cylinder which creates the "rattle" we all have heard. More drag, but a quieter engine.

Here is a pic of the Mahle's that went into mine brand new Gen 3 block.

Did you notice the visible pin offset on the predator piston?
