I used to only put 87 in my former 2016 Ecoboost. When a friend from Germany visited me he suggested to put 93 in it. Man, that woke that thing up! We were like... duuude! Huge grins and on to the Interstate we went, big difference. With the 2021 GT not so much. Either way, 87 or 93 is ok. I can't tell the difference, at least not yet, or when the engine falls apart, then I know. 😁

Cars a DD…I’ve been dedicated to running 93 since I took delivery but after following this thread I tried 87 for shits and giggles…after 3 fill ups I don’t see any difference except in my wallet…

I've been running 87 in my 18 GT since new. 93 is $1.00 more per gallon at my nearest station. Tried running 93 a couple years ago, but other than exhaust sound, didn't notice a difference. On the open road I get 26-27 MPG.

Really. Then what's the point of FORD's 'adaptive octane logic' then ?
As I stated in my previous post and the bottom line. Per Ford, its designed and engineered for 87 but the management system can take advantage of higher octane, up to 93, for increased power. There is very little difference in fuel within a grade, the difference is in the additive packages, that's why especially on 87 there can be a large difference between brands as far as performance or knock. Premium such as 93 has more wiggle room for the management system to make up for.

Surprisingly, when we compared a tank of regular vs tank of premium on wife's F150 with the twin turbo V6, she got about 1.5mpg better with the premium than regular. At the time when I compared it price paid/per gallon/mileage, ended up being only about around $3-5 more for the 30gal tank. If I remember correctly that is :D
That makes some sense on a boosted engine. You’ll be running closer to borderline spark much more frequently than with a naturally aspirated engine, and running closer to borderline will be more efficient by virtue of not sending heat to the exhaust.

LET THE MUD START TO FLY,!!
I apologize, didn't mean to sound it that way. Normally, we look forward to good discussions, pros/cons, facts and myths, etc.

No hard feelings DougS550.

I have to use premiums because my 5.0 knocks slow speed, starting out from stop. HOWEVER, I will use regular on road trips; mostly cruising speed -- I will not pay 70-80 cents per gallon over the regular. If I happen to run into a Sam's Club or Costco as I exit Interstate, sure take the premium.

I'm running E15 this tank which is 88 octane vs. my normal mid grade which is 87. The only difference I noticed was $5 less on fuel, lol
Recall...I am at 5000 ft

Dude my 18 pp1 with the 10r80 was ignition cutting like crazy on 94oct with 15-20% ethanol. Now i can only imagine how much harm you are doing to your engine if you run out of luck one day

The knock sensors must be working full time 24/7 and even if you don't hear it (as minimal it can be) it is bad for your piston ringland and your only looking for an engine failure eventually. And there is no excess in my reaction right here im only warning you that you should at the very least run 91 in this motor. Unlike previous generation this new one is pushing the limit of whats possible to run (compression wise) on street pump fuel. And your not getting 450 hp out of 87oct

The difference is so huge, that 87 octane you barely break tire loose, and on 94 you can do a 360 degree shifting from 1st to 2nd in drag mode if you keep it pinned.

Now you do what you want, its your car.
