I put in a Hurst Competition Plus short throw shifter, Hurst grille, and back panel. I’m an old guy and remember the days when Hurst ruled, so a bit of nostalgia I guess. Can’t forget Linda Vaughn either.

I love it! Does the reverse lockout work well? Any special modifications needed to install or was it a direct bolt on?

Thanks. Reverse lockout works well. It has a 38% reduction in shift length which I like.
It’s a bitch to install, you also have to use parts of your original shifter. I’m glad I did it as I like the final result and I like the looks of it.
If you’re just looking to up grade your shifter probably a Barton is worth the extra $100 bucks considering the work required.
The reviews on American Muscle will tell you more.

I gotcha. I have the Steeda Tri-ax Race shifter and really like it, but your Hurst theme does look very cool.

Can’t get the pics to load but bet it’s badass. I have the OG hurst shifter and T handle on my 68. Didn’t know they made a shifter for these cars…

That's a badass shifter, love the look, and love the interior/body mods to go with it. Unique and old school! I'm a fan of the Hurst Olds 442(no, I don't have one, but I am the second owner of my grandpa's '68 Olds Delta 88 455).

I've looked at installation videos for aftermarket shifters, and decided it was way too much trouble for me...until I saw yours, even though it sounds like it's even more trouble. Very tempting...

If you can do your own work it’s probably worth it. You have to jack the car up, remove exhaust, trans xmember and then remove the shifter; take the guts out and replace them with the Hurst stuff. Here’s the manual….

Thanks, but yes, exactly, lol. I do indeed do my own work, but that seems like a pain to me, having watched a video of a guy doing exactly that: drop exhaust, trans x member, drive shaft, etc. They make it look straightforward, but the way I work, it would take me 2 days and I would be fretting about the amount of disassembly required and getting it back like it came from the factory.

I guess we have different thresholds of 'pain', but good on you for taking it on! That's why folks won't give my interior a second glance, but they will for you, especially those of us familiar with the old school look. Not knocking the guys with the Steeda etc equivalent, but that Hurst name and especially the trigger totally caught me eye. Well done!
