I took them off without rotating them. If you look at the pic of the underside of the cover, there are 3 indents on the outside edge and across the top of the cover. Once these are popped, it will slip off pretty easily. It is VERY tight on the mirror and it feel like you are going to break something but, it is pretty simple once you get the top and side popped off. Re-installing is even easer, just snaps back in. I got lucky and picked up the Ingot Silver ones off ebay as take off items. I am not good at painting but these are factory and the contract was what I wanted. I am thinking of having the windshield frame wrapped in silver (I'm bad with film). LOL black should look great on your car. The hardest part will be removing the factory spoiler if you have one on. I highly recommend LOTS of WD40, 10lb fishing line, and a heat gun for really tough spots. I put the Foose spoiler on mine. Not too big, not too small. If I did not have the factory holes, I would have done the Roush spoiler style.
you've been very helpful. just got it figured out and cap started to come off...will wait til I get take offs as well. black hard to find. have an xclnt painter who did hood vents.
also have Foose spoiler, no factory, had to drill but like it for several reasons over Roush. once I did the hood vents with spoiler, mirrors a must do.
you mention rotating...that probably unhooks the hooks. i'll try and see as I go...
glad I joined the site. have gotten info before but not by contact. again, thanks dw

just to be sure...what are you referring to "rotating them"? is that turning the mirror or turning the cover as you pull up and back. trying to make sense of the hooks. mm

Just the cover. The guts (stuff in black) are the frame the cover attaches to. Once the three notches at the top are popped you rotate the cover slightly towards the window and up. It will slip right off. When installing it is basically the reverse but as you push it it the clips will line up and snap right in.

Ok guys, so my new to my 17 has a passenger side mirror cover/cap that must have hooks or tabs broken because the cover keeps working it's way off.

Usually not a big deal, I notice a small gap between cover and mirror after passenger door is closed, and I give it a little push and she snaps back into place.

Tonight I was doing the quick clean up at the do it yourself car wash bay and there high pressure wash spray blew the mirror cover clean off. Luckily it only suffered one minor scratch on bottom edge of the cover when it landed.

So do I need to replace the cover and pay to get it color matched, etc because the tabs are broke, or has anyone had any luck using a bit of double sided tape or something?

Thanks in advance
