How to enjoy new Mach 1?

Just recently bought my Mach 1 (base/non-HP) on a whim, and I want to eventually get back into motorsports. My only track experience has been many of street-car nights at the ¼ mile drag strip in an ‘05 GTO; but with the Mach 1 I’d like to do something a little more exciting. What would be your recommendation for me to use my car as intended and push my limits? Road course...Autocross...etc…? Whats a good amateur track application for the Mach 1?

If I was you I would check what the closest to you road course is and what are the next HPDE track days. Will put a fresh Motul RBF660 in the car, will do a performance alignment. And give it a go. You will learn a lot about the car and it will be super fun.

Neat on track. Don't try to enjoy it on the rocks, it's not a Subaru. Once you have well developed palate, you can start experimenting with straight up approaches.

LOL! Funny that you mention using it on the rocks; my other ride is a Raptor and I enjoy drifting around on the gravel & dirt ranch roads. Surprisingly I've yet to take it to an actual rally or baja course.

Initially, find an HPDE club like Hooked on Driving, SCDA, Chin, etc... Sign up for novice and run with an instructor on day one. At the end of the day see what you get signed off to run in solo and go from there. Depending on skills and number of days you go it's possible to be running advanced within one season. It's more about awareness and safety on the track than speed.

Only thing you need in that car is brake fluid (I like Castrol SRF) and brake pads (you're probably best off swapping for track days) maybe say G-Loc R8s or R10s

Anything beyond that is opening Pandora's box. Your OEM car is not set up anywhere near it's limits.

I completely forgot about Track Attack. Will i get an invite to attend or do I need to reach out?

Prior to this discussion I had no idea what HPDE meant; but some of your suggestions got me pointed in the right direction. I think attending some HPDE track days is exactly what I should do. I researched all of the mentioned groups and a couple of them look like they would suit me well.

So I think Track Attack would lead nicely into HPDE track days. Not much has been said about Autocross. I'm still open to it also, but don't know how it would compare to an HPDE day at an actual track. Seems concrete parking lots would shred a set of tires pretty quick.

In the meantime I do also intend to hit the local 1/4 mile strip for a quick shakedown of some of the cars systems, and to dip my toes back into something familiar.

There you go, try both HPDE and drag racing a few times (before modding) and see which one you like the best. You can then mod and get the most out of the car for the style of use that it will be subjected to.

Autocross it - cheap, easy and low risk.

HPDEs cost quite a bit more in tire and brake pad wear as well as the risk factor of a car to car incident or more commonly going off and hitting something. At the local track days usually 1-2 cars will wreck or have a bad off per day. Autocross its 1-2 cars a year
