I know there have been many mentions of this as well as a few threads discussing options....well today common sense hit me when I was closing my freshly washed trunk.

No rags, hanging nylon, elbows, or anything needed ...just a few fingers.

I've been closing mine like that from day one. I bowl in a league two nights every week and tournaments on the weekend. I open and close my trunk a lot.

One few too many pressures on that clasp cover and you will crack it.

I'm sure the weight of that spoiler makes it easier for you. Mine needs a good slam to close.

I shoot in two pool leagues during the week, always in & out of my trunk, doing errands also several times a week keeps me opening the trunk.

Don't use the escape latch-->:frusty:

I've tried this before and with no spoiler the trunk won't move with this method for me. I'm sure the weight of the spoiler helps a lot.

I just use my palm instead of fingers; problem solved.

palms leave prints too
They're nowhere near as visible since your palm won't have nearly as much dirt, grime, and oil.

I should probably clarify that I was talking about the very bottom of your palm right near the wrist

Does anyone else find the S550 trunk lid as odd as I do? I'm used to the huge, intrusive hinges that American cars always had (that would smash things that got in the way). Thus lift strut business is just weird...it's like a hatchback with steel instead of glass ;)

P.S. how much weight would it save if a manufacturer were to produce a new trunk lid in carbon fiber? Seems like an ideal panel for it, not really part of the vehicle's collision protection...
