How stupid is the idea of drilling holes for roof rack?

get the right vehicle for the application.....if you're going camping and hauling stuff, get an suv or pick up! :cwl: these are my personal opinions and no Mustangs were hurt in the process.

Hello; if the problem is the cargo basket drags the ground so you cannot use it, why not modify that. Not sure which hitch you use, but for the pickup truck hitches there are adapters that can change the height of the ball. The part that slides into the hitch can be had with different drop levels so the ball matched the trailer tongue.
If the cargo basket part that inserts into the hitch can be modified, perhaps you can raise it up enough to stop the dragging? I would check into this before drilling holes in the roof.

Hello; These in the link are what I am thinking about. Most of these are for 2 inch hitches so may not work if you have the smaller hitch size. But do a search for hitch adapters n your size. Maybe have one welded to the hitch basket.

sea sucker makes suction roof racks. They’re pricy but 100% better than a hole in your roof.

I have a feeling he didn’t drill holes for that… at least I hope not.

This can't be a real thought, the tow hitch and bike rack questions always make me cringe as well.

Hey man, it's your car and do with it as you please! I don't understand why others get offended by the idea? I wouldn't do it, but hell, it'll definitely be unique! I've seen several Lambos with the roof mounted cargo shells/carriers like Chef jpd posted or "TheStradman" on Youtube....I second the Seasucker so it's reversible in case you hate or want to sell in the future and don't need to worry about leaks. Plus, I've heard good things about them, though I'm paranoid so the suction cups would make me nervous it would fly off!!
