How long did you want a Mustang before you got one and what did it take to make it possible?

The seed was probably planted with my 1970 Boss Hoss chrome special edition car that you could only get by joining the Hot Wheels club. My 2013 looked a lot like it in proportions and style.

Wanted a fast/sporty car since senior year of highschool (04), have had a need for a truck (dirt bikes & derby car trailer) ever since, so couldnt swing a car unless I could have both a truck and a car at the same time. Fast forward to 2015 it was finally looking like finances would allow that dream to come true. Started looking at fast cars, MK3 & 4 used Supras, E46 M3, 370Z, then discovered the 15+ Mustangs. It ticked all the boxes, I wanted RWD, good handling, push you in the seat acceleration, the Mustang had not been on my radar or thought process because of the solid axle and the last mustang I road in (1999 GT) didnt impress me (hardly faster than my tacoma and handled like any regular car). I wasnt even aware, at the time, of the Coyote engine and how owesome it was/is. So once i discovered (summer of 2015) 400+ hp with good handling IRS/RWD for under 40k I had to have one. Wife and I agreed as soon as we paid off my 2011 Tacoma, I/we would go for it. That came true about one year later in July 2016. 2 years later no regrets, have thrown the entire Steeda Catalog at the car, been to the track, laid waste to much more expensive Porsches and my father-in-laws Hellcat (at the track), got my uncle to upchuck his breakfast in the canyons, caused my old highschool friend to GTE swap his IS300, caused a coworker to re-buy an S197 but a coyote vs his old 3v, and neighbor to LS swap his Chevelle and had a blast doing it all.

I first showed interest in Mustangs in high school. I had a buddy who had an ~85 GT that I would hang out with and would catch a ride home with often. That car was fun. My family had very limited money so I was fortunate to have an Escort and a beat up old Grand Am for my use in High school and college. After joining the military, I was more of a truck or SUV guy. I always liked the 2005-14 Mustangs, but I owned an RV so we had an Armada for the family vehicle to tow that thing. My car was always a family-sensible sedan (Focus, Accord, etc). In 2013, we moved to Germany so we sold the RV and Armada and downsized a hair to a Sienna. I went carless for 3 years as I could ride my bike to work. Coming back to the States, I knew I would need a car again so I was set to get a truck. My wife is 100% opposed to another RV so she killed the truck idea as it is a gateway drug...lol. I was content with getting another cheap, sensible car, but she said to get something fun that you want..."how about a Mustang?" Well that did it and now I am sold. Love my first Mustang....although some of the adds for 18 that should have been part of the 15 (performance pack on auto, magneride, active exhaust) certainly entice me but I will keep this for quite a while. My wife will get next new vehicle when the Sienna is worn out.

I was always a BMW fan (still am) but when the 2011 5.0 Coyote came out I was intrigued.

Then the Boss 302 with the Road Runner engine came out in 2012 and I was impressed.

2015 S550 came out and I was impressed with the IRS and styling but was a bit underwhelmed with the specs (power, weight) esp knowing the Camaro would get the LT1.

Then the GT350 came out in 2016 and was completely blown away and told myself that I would buy one in a couple years.

Two years later I came to the realization that the GT350 would be overkill for my needs. At this time the 2018 came out, more powerful 3rd gen Coyote, A10, Digital dash etc and knew I had to have it. More than 3 months after delivery, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. :)

Almost bought a 66 Mustang 289 with a tunnel ram & dual quads when I was sixteen in 1982. Ended up getting a 71 Mark III instead. Always liked Mustangs, never had one until Monday. I was looking at getting an 18 RCSB F150 to replace my 13, but I didn't like the lack of space behind the seats on the new ones. Really didn't want a Super Cab. So 2 months ago I stated thinking about a new Mustang again. Since the 18 GT came out, I was taken back by the performance. Once I spotted a tiny spot of rust forming on my 13, I went to the dealer. They gave me $17,500 on my six year old truck I paid $24K for new. Not bad for 6 years use. I got $5,000 off the GT, which I thought was fair, considering they had to go out of state for it.

I have wanted a Mustang since 2016. In 2016 I bought a brand new Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 6 speed double cab. I'm married with two kids, so we need the truck for camping/outdoor rec and just overall to have one for home depot runs and other things. I started to have some fun exploring off road and really got into it. I have 1 year and 3 months left of payments on my Tacoma. The day I pay my truck off, I'm going straight to Ford and buying a brand new GT Premium with track package in 6speed. Although the new mt82 transmissions worry me a little bit, I hope ford comes out with a fix by then.

My Dad told me the summer of my 17th (1989)birthday if you save 2,500 towards a car mowing grass, working at a golf course, bagging groceries on the weekends-that he would match me 2,500 for a car. Well, 1,100 fairways later I had the money. We drove around used car lots until I spotted a 85 Silver/Black GT, I couldn’t drive a standard worth a crap but I didn’t let my Dad know that. We bought it, the exit was uphill, I killed it 3 times trying to get out of the lot-It was a Dad moment that I thought he was going to lose his mind. First time I heard my old man drop an F! After cutting the cats, putting on 12in thruster glass packs I blew 20 bucks in gas just downshifting on back country roads:) My last quarter of college I was broke so I sold it to pay for school with the intent one day I’d buy another 5.0. A few months ago after 22 yrs in the USAF I retired and thought this was the right time to make that purchase. Now I have a 17’ GT in the garage that represents a story like many others in this thread. Cheers!

I was 13 1/2 when Mustang was introduced in April, 1964 and although I had always loved cars this car sent me to the moon! When I started driving in 1967 circumstances always put me in other cars until 1990 when I needed a daily driver for commuting in L.A. I bought a brand new (hold laughter please) 1990 4cyl 90hp automatic Mustang LX for just under $10,000. It was perfect for commuting but after 60mph it was like hitting a 60mph headwind!
Traded it for a 1995 Probe GT which was a blast and was the only car I ever drove for 8 years -until 2003 and 165,000 miles. Anyway, skip forward to now (and MANY more cars between) when I turned 66, woke up one Sunday morning and it hit me that it was once again time for me to put driving practicality aside and get another Mustang before I get too old. That afternoon I drove my convertible home, astounded that my same-as-1990 displacement (different block of course + Turbo) 2.3 liter has about 3 1/2 times the horsepower! True, I’m an old fart but the Mustang is my fountain of youth bringing back the same thrill I had in 1964.

Actually I'm what they call a Vette fan boy, and have owned one kind or another for over 30 years. The light of my life, and the fire in my loins was the one that got us into Mustangs. She had wanted one for quite a few years, and as soon as the planets aligned she got her first GT in 2010.

And damit, I had so much fun driving hers I bought an '06 GT Coupe for a DD. :)

But, I still have my Vette...........

I have a white Stang similar to yours with similar stripes and tires.

I painted my license plate holder white so it doesn't detract as much from the front.

Check it out. I have an extra on you can paint.

I've been into mustangs since I was a little kid. My dad bought an 89 lx 5.0 convertible new while I was in high school, and that's when I absolutely fell in love. I went through a few fox body cars and ended up with a 93 cobra (which I wish I still had) in 1996. I worked my ass off at various crappy jobs back then to fund my car habit. Life happens, and fast forward a few years, I find myself going through a divorce about 4 years ago and I did a reevaluation of various life decisions including selling an 08 GT that I wish I hadn't had to sell, and I realized that I was happiest when I had a 4cyl Honda accord as a daily and my 93 cobra as my fun car, so I sold the Tacoma that I was driving, bought myself a used 4cyl manual Honda accord, and started saving for a new mustang. Picked up my 18 GT PP Mt82 car in February. Whipple was installed last weekend.

Ive owned 7 mustangs. Always older used ones.
In order
1975 Mustang II in 1996(gone)
85 gt t-top in 2002(gone)
94 Cobra in 2004(gone)
89 lx vert in 2009(gone)
94 cobra in 2011(still own it)
1992 gt in 2016(gone)
68(family car, owned since 1969, mine in 2013)

The 4.6 cars never appealed to me. I've had lightnings since 2005 and felt no need for another mod motor.

In 2011 the coyotes came out and i caught the bug. Only issue was I already had enough toys and my kids were still in car seats.

Fast forward to now. The 2018s have finally pushed me over the brink. My kids are out of car seats and I need a post military retirement dd.

As much as I love the power of these cars, especially after a tune and the basics, I was never really into american muscle - drove a nissan, couple acura suvs, etc...

Last year - I really wanted a convertible. Didn't really care which one it was - I just wanted a convertible.

Was out to lunch one day with Dad - saw a Ford dealer across the street - decided to pop in. They didn't have any convertibles in stock.

Week after, went on vacation to Vegas - rented / drove a convertible Camaro all week and that solidified getting a convertible.

Got back from vacation - same Ford dealer called me saying they got a race red one optioned how I wanted it. 2 days later, went for a test drive; took delivery the next day.

I love the car - strait up funnest car I've ever driven. Sucks in the snow, and this year I'm really considering getting a winter car - but it was a good choice IMO.

I can't say I'll get another though. The luxury just isn't there. The leather is meh, all the plastic is meh, rust in 2 spots on the hood now on a 2 year old car / 1 winter and it gets waxed every week or so? For shame... My next is a Porsche - either the 718 as a convertible or the Macan. If plans hold true and the girlfriend and I move to Florida in 3 years when her son graduates school - probably the 718 - no need for a SUV where it doesn't snow...
