Slightly off topic but could be related ...

For you 2018+ guys - can you lift the wipers without them touching the back of the bonnet ? How close to the edge are they ?

Cheers,

It does thanks :like:

Unless there is a significant difference in the RHD settings, I could do with rotating my wipers by one notch ...

This is how my wipers looks at rest:

IMG_1100.jpg

The driver's side wiper goes up to the line indicated by the red arrows:

IMG_1101.jpg

The morning dew made it clear where the line was (somehow there was a bit more of it past that line), but my phone couldn't capture it very well. But it's right there, where the arrows are.

So I was wrong when I said it went all the way to the pillar. It doesn't actually. But, as you can see, the line is past the edge of the interior A pillar trim, which means that from inside the car it looks as if it were going all the way to the pillar. For all intents and purposes it's as if it were.
Vlad, thanks for the illustrative pictures.
My wipers have a different position at both extremes.
I will explore why this is so.

Might sound silly and not help..but its a simple check.

On the attachment point of the drivers side wiper..remove the rubber grommet covering the nut and make sure the nut isnt slightly loose? Make sure its torqued to spec. Mine was slightly loose before and behaved in a similar manner.
Good idea.
I will certainly check this over the weekend.
Do you accidentally know requested torque spec?

Most windshield wiper torque specs are like 15 ft/lb i believe. Id say thats a safe number. Idk the mustang specific number off the top of my head though.

Another possibility (depending if OP bought car new, or during winter), is that a previous owner, or dealer personnel, turned wipers on with them frozen to the windshield at one time. Wonder if you can ruin the mechanism/splines that way. Or does the fuse blow first? Curious about that.

OK, after you all stop telling me my wipers are on the wrong side :cwl: Here’s my RHD :

Both wipers are lower than most I see on this thread, but both are perfectly centred on the windshield marks.

The left side seems acceptable, I can lift that without it contacting the hood - only just, with about 3mm / 1/8” clearance.

The right side needs to be rotated a little to clear the hood and then once lifted, it relaxes back and rests on the edge. I trap a folded microfibre in there before it relaxes but I can see that someone being rough / quick checking the blades at a MOT / service would remove or chip paint.

Im going to rotate the right side one spline and see if that helps :like:

Yes, I can lift the wipers in REST position without them touching the hood edge.
Gap approx 5 mm.

Car was delivered brand new in May 2019.
But it was travelling to Europe over the winter. Who knows, what all happened then.
Wipers could have been also turned on frozen and therefore jumped over one notch.
Don't know about the fuse.

It might help people give you help if you post a photo of the wipers in their parked position.
Here are the additional pictures.

Does anyone of you guys see something wrong, misaligned or displaced here?

I’m wondering - and this is totally off the wall but, just wondering if perhaps the wiper arms are either swapped OR your driver side wiper arm is not for an S550 and was a wrong part pulled during assembly.

The only other thing I can possibly think of is there is an issue with the wiper arm linkage or motor that is causing the “short stop” in its travel. As stated by a few of us, the driver side wiper arm should come within 2” of the driver side A-pillar at full sweep.

It sucks to have to do it, but you’re vehicle is a 2019 and it should be covered under the 3/36 Bumper to Bumper (unless you e exceeded the 36k miles) - so a Service Center visit would be in order.
