Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

I'm thinking seriously about switching out my '16 V6 for a premium '18 or '19 ecoboost but I wonder if the leather seats will hold up. I drove a brand spankin' new 2019 ecoboost premium vert while on vacation in Florida and loved the leather seats and engine torque. I'm shopping around at the moment to potentially upgrade to a new or slightly used hardtop ecoboost premium, but the seats are looking pretty worn in all the pictures I am seeing of the uses ones.

Does Ford leather not last that long? I'm thinking I might save some money and just get the 101A package with the cloth seats. The cloth seats are holding up great in my '16 and are pretty comfortable. I just kind of wanted to "class it up" with some leather, but not if it is just going to wear fast.

Thanks,

Chris

I had a 15’ GT premium and 2&1/2 years and 24000 miles later they looked stretched at the seat bottoms. Heating elements worked good but a/c sucked. Opted for the cloth seats on my 18’ GT and haven’t regretted it. The only thing I wanted on the premium options was the LED gauges so I bought them and installed them myself.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll get the 101A package for the bigger screen and Sync 3 and cloth seats again. Might possibly go crazy and get the magnaride and performance package too. As much as I'd like leather it seems the seats don't hold up very well.

I rented a 2019 Vert a couple of weeks ago and my 201A leather feels better than the standard premium leather.

If you’re going to upgrade, I will highly recommend a performance pack. I was not impressed much with the vert. :( probably it was the 87oct they put in those cars.

15 premium. Ceramic two tone. 21k miles. Still looks like new. But I clean and condition them a couple times a year.

Good point - I forgot about the 201A leather. I thought the vert was decent enough but you are right about the gas. I put some 93 octane in mine and it felt a bit faster/more responsive.

I would like to get the performance pack but I'm wondering if that would make the ride too harsh for long distance trips with the girlfriend. We're planning on driving from Cleveland to Tucson in a few months, for example. I know magnaride would probably take care of a harsh ride but I'd have to really think about the cost increase. It would probably be worth it though.

I'm thinking of getting a manual transmission as I've never driven a proper sports car with one (just old Ford escorts and Jettas back in the day). The 10 speed auto seemed pretty nice in the rental.

Mine look perfect after 30k. Keep clean and condition every so often.

Go and try a Performance Pack, it’s not that harsh. Now, I do live in FL and roads are good down here, so I didn’t opted for the magnaride. Also when I ordered mine, they were having issues with magnaride orders.

The 10 speed auto with the 3.55 Gears will feel different than the rental.

If the 101A had the digital cluster, I would probably have gone with Base PP 101A and 10auto.

Man I wish they had Ceramic on the Premium Plus. I always loved that tone, makes it looks luxurious. What do you use for condition?

What do you use for condition? Mine is 6 months old, starting to think about that.

My prior 2016, the Ceramic leather looked great and when that was turned back to Ford (Buy Back), the car had over 36k on it and the seating surfaces still looked new.

My 2018, again with Ceramic leather and with currently over 18k on it, the seating surfaces still look new. No stretch or abnormal wear.

I do as michaelchatten posted, keep them clean and conditioned, don’t have any pointy objects and be careful entering/exiting the vehicle and the leather will last a very long time.

I use Griots Garage 3-in-1 Leather conditioner/cleaner, it works excellent.

Leather care is important for keeping the seats in good condition.

Clean them with a leather-specific cleaner. Lexol, Gyeon, CarPro, Optimum No-Rinse... all work well. Do NOT use an APC. The pH is too alkaline and can cause leather to dry out, split and crack over time.

Condition with any leather conditioner. Ammo NYC, Lexol, etc.. lots of choices that work fine.

My leather looks new and my car is a couple of years old, but it's only got just short of 5000 miles on it.

Don't drag your ass and back across the outer bolsters. This is a big culprit of cracked and split leather.

Don't overthink the situation Chris. Like anything else the amount of care you put into the seats will show as the years go by. The main thing you have to be mindful of is the seat back bolsters. When getting in make sure you you don't rub your rear end on them, or they will certainly show the wear after a short time. I've always used the sit, and spin in when entering the car. It's worked great on my wife's Mustangs, and my Corvette's for many years.

Note: After 6 years, and 45K miles the leather seats in the wife's '13 GT still looked good as new. I expect her '18 GT's seats will be the same.

The GT/CS version is holding up for me after 3K miles, the leather bolsters and accents. also the mikosuede inserts too, they also feel nice and soft. I am careful just using vacuum, suede brush, and no chemicals on that area, other than cleaner/conditioner on leather parts only.

My 2011 Fusion Sport leather still looked great after using conditioner/cleaner at times for 7 years. but not sure if same leather used on Mustangs.
