How are dealers (Granger, Chapman) offering deals under invoice?

Yes but a lot of what is going on now esp in DFW is price gouging, plain and simple. I wouldn’t buy a car off the lot from these guys if they had the last car on the planet. And Ford should do something about it, it’s so ugly!!
A dealer about 8 miles from my house wouldn't budge off MSRP on a Mach 1. I walked out and ordered through Granger Ford. Until dealers figure this out, they are going to lose out on tons of sales. These online retailers are also pressuring them hard on used cars now. Not to mention Ford possibly moving to online ordering only with no dealerships anymore.

Hi. Spoke with a salesman from Chapman Ford today. The best discount I can get on a new Gt is $1000. Is he holding back? What do you guys think?

it's supposed to be 4% under invoice which approaches 8% off MSRP. The $1000 is just Ford's "incentive" to get people to place orders. The sales-droid probably misunderstood you or needs a briefing from management.

Get the full term sheet. It should look something like

MSRP - Freight40000
'Invoice' price38000 (^ * 0.95)
dealer discount -1520 (^ * 0.04)
ford discount-1000
Freight (?)1100
FeesX00
Sub-Totalsum(above)
Total w/ NY sales tax (X %)^ * (1 + rate)

The before tax discount should pencil out to 0.93 ( 7%) or so when all is said and done.
Ideally you'd like to see more like 12-15% off before tax but Ford being stingy nor lack of supply isn't helping.

I can remember many, many years ago my buddy who was a police officer was tasked to pick up the new police cars from the Dodge dealer. These cars had the stickers on the window still. When he picked up the cars for the city, there was an invoice to the city for the price of the cars. The invoice the city paid was about 40% of the sticker price.

I always remembered that. The real price the dealers pay is unknown to use mere mortal, but it is much lower than their "dealer invoice". I know this also because I have purchased many cars for thousands less then the "dealer invoice".

Here is a negotiating tip. Come up with a price you are willing to pay. Tell the dealership that you are willing to buy the car RIGHT NOW for that price. It is effective. Do not negotiate. But, be ready to buy or order the car with a deposit RIGHT NOW. They will take you seriously. Then just say, "that's the price I am willing to pay". No negotiation. Yes, or no.

Just last year I came up with a price I was willing to pay for the car. I told the salesman. "yes or no". He tried to argue. But, I said, that is my price. He said no. Then a couple of days later he called and asked me "where did you get that price?". I said that's my business. Yes or no. He said "no". I said "thank you". Then I bought another car using this same tactic. 3 days later the first guy called back and said. "OK' I will do it. I said "I'm sorry, you are too late, I just bought a different vehicle, but I really appreciate your getting back with me". I watched and it took a good 6 months before the car was sold at a lower list price.

What do you think I should pay for a base Mach1 with handling package?

As we said in the Army..."yours is not to reason why, yours is to just do and die!" Something of that effect.

as little as possible.
Ford's margin can't be any worse than 20-30%. The dealer doesn't work for free so in a friction-less environment (say back in 2019) 15-20% off MSRP+tax.

At Granger, we all paid which works out to about 7% under sticker.

Order it from Granger/Chapman/etc, should get you to your price range for a new car. Otherwise get a quote from them and then shop it around dealers with inventory and hope for the best.

it would be helpful if you also stated the MSRP and removed tax/fees from your datapoint.

The local (chevy) dealer near me is despite the extremely tight supply advertising SS/1LE for a flat 10% off MSRP. Other local chevy dealers not even 15 miles away are asking $3500-5000 ADM for the same car. The disparity is just amazing.
