I know it’s been talked about in other parts on the forum, but I’ve never experienced it as this is the first S550 I’ve had. So hood lift at highway speeds and buffeting winds is a normal thing for this design? Anyone have any issues that tracked? Is the only answer really just the pins?

I had it happen during the Mach 1 Track Attack. It was a little disconcerting, but then I hadn't had my own up over 100 mph at the time. The staff at the school said it's normal.

We need a real vented hood on this model which gets rid of that. Not a fan of the 18 hood.

It did happen to me several times on one trip. I was driving around 150 km/h (~90 mph) and there was a strong side wind with gusts (20-35kn). First time I saw it I thought I imagined things, but the second time proved me wrong. The hood seemed to lift 5-10 cm and then returned back just for a moment.
It must be related to gusts though as I have also driven past 200 km/h (~125 mph) and have not seen it.

Used to have an issue with the 350 at speed, it has not pins and the snubber or snubbers were set too loose.
Man that thing would flex above 120 something crazy like it was about to pop off or fold in half. At 140+ it had a big pucker factor going for sure, but it never failed.

I re-adjusted the snubbers and it wasn't nearly as bad. Never really went away though. Good thing the 500 has pins, no issue there.

What are snubbers?

I have been considering hood pins but haven't pulled the trigger yet. It gets very distracting > 135mph.

10 centimeters is 4 inches... that's a LOT!

Has anyone ever had a hood come up on them that was closed properly?

My buddies 02 SS was the worst, that sucker would lift 4 inches and the wipers would lift off the windshield. Never noticed it on my last GT. Definitely noticeable with the Mach, More air going into the front and the same about venting out?

I remember during the S197 track development they had issues with the hood coming up and ripping the hood pins through the supports. They went to 4 pins and reinforced the supports and Mustangs started coming with the hood vents. I have some confidences that these cars are tracked very hard well before we get to track them very hard.

Hopefully the guys installing Shakers are carful.

I'm planning on running the GT500 hood om my M1, maybe the large vent will make a difference. I am driving a 2020 Ecoboost rental, that had to have been in an accident. The drivers side lifts and vibrates like crazy at speed. I adjusted the snubber on that side, but it didn't really help. It's got 40K miles on it, and 85mph on I-5 on a windy day way a little scary.

Hood struts will help with this issue but not eradiate it entirely
I actually noticed a huge difference after installing my hood struts. Vibration is minimal and starts to show at 90 now when it used to be pretty bad at 75.

Take the rubber molding off the sides under the hood. This gives the air an escape rout. Stopped all hood lift on my 17, been over 150 Mph and no flutter
