So I was about to pull the trigger on a CF hood and deck lid today. Anderson Composites describes the hood as needing hood pins and latch as well as a heat shield.

I'll just get this out of the way..... HOLY CRAP! The hood latch mechanism (push pins) run $718 each MSRP and the nut runs $83 each MSRP. That is the cost of the carbon fiber hood!

Am I missing something?

I believe you can get these directly from Quik-Latch distributors for around $300 a piece complete. I am not sure if the Ford GT500 are 'special' in any way?

Anderson Composites told me that the hood pins Ford has on the 500 hood are proprietary. Considering they were always correct about the 500 hood lines not matching the 350, I believe them.

They are definately made by Quik-Latch, now whether the GT500's are different, proprietary, or can only be purchased through Ford....IDK

Oh I know they are definitely made my Quik-Latch, that should be common knowledge around here at this point. The design is proprietary to Ford according to AC.

I know for a fact that the 500 pins are proprietary and unique to the car, lets leave it at that. Quik Latch is a company that cares about its products and the owner is a real nice guy.

I am just shocked that the parts cost so much through Ford. I will research to see if maybe another pin might be able to be substituted.

WOW, that is crazy, i assumed you could get a generic Quik-Latch and it would work. I guess the size, shape, color, depth is probably specific to the GT500.

That I don't know. I do know that the pins on the 500 are specific to that car.

HS, Tom! FIFTEEN HUNDRED bones for two pin assemblies! They are a great design both in form and function but geeze. You'll have 4g's in that hood before you're done. At least gas is cheap.

one of mine came scratched from the factory and the dealer could not get ford to replace. So I called quick-latch and the owner was great. I took mine off and he sent me a brand new one. He told me the gt500 is different from the ones sold online. Ford has to be able to keep the monopoly on the gt500 parts, example the wing.

You are right. He is great! He truly cares about his product. I spent quite a bit of time with him on the phone.... an amazing guy. Everyone has to understand that anyone who manufactures parts for Ford is held to a very strict contract. They cannot sell these parts on the side.

I would never ask him to do such a thing, but certainly if I can tweak the application so that I can use an off the shelf quik latch item, thats where I'm going.

I dont want to trash Ford here, but they have made my project cost prohibitive. Most likely it is to protect us 500 owners from the posers that will buy parts after the fact to mimic as much of the 500 as they can.

The folks at quik latch are great. A true American dream/success story.

I'll find a way.....

Smart on Ford's part, keeps the gt500 dna intact unmolested, no clones driving around.

Most likely there is not a physical difference, only prt numbers.

Keeping in mind, there are only so many ways to skin a cat.

like the corvette chase for number matching cars.
