Hertz Shelby GT-500 H 900+ Horse Power

I heard this commercial the other day and thought it was a mistake. Nope, 900+ Hp out of a supercharged 3.8L.
That's a lot of ponies out of a 3.8L.

But then is goes on to say 5.2L. Not sure what's going on here.

EDIT: It has been pointed out that is the supercharger not the engine. I read it at first as a 3.8L supercharged engine.

what's going on is that it's probably a whipple 3.8 blower. so the article is correct.

Now that makes sense. I first read it as a supercharge 3.8L. DOOOH!

They have obliviously done something to get the 900+ hp over the 760 our cars are rated at. The larger supercharger will do that.

I believe the stock supercharger on the GT500 is a 2.65L unit with 12lbs of boost. The 3.8L whipple is definitely the difference maker

That setup makes 750 to the wheels on pump gas on my 350, and its barely working it. I’m sure that’s crank hp, but still very respectable.

Wonder what qualified driver gets too drive her? I mean come on unless it’s an experienced performance owner of their own I just can’t see it. Who here has goosed there GT500 and the back end is busting loose and especially on a cool day. God forbid someone e rents this for a weekend adventures up in the back mountain country roads on a fall day or spring day with moisture on the roads. Uh huh surprised we haven’t heard any stories yet of this brilliant marketing plan

I have a hard time believing that Hertz is going to let anybody walk in and rent a 900-hp GT500. There must be some serious TC tuning limiting the throttle application. Need to see one of these on a dyno.

Funny you say this. Last night I was on the Hertz website looking at rental cars for Vegas. I can rent a GT-500 H convertible or non-convertible for $140 a day. I went all the way to the final step. Nothing funky. Just like renting a regular car. As far as throttle mapping by Shelby America. I have no clue.

Must be an error. No convertible models are being made and the price is $400

Slow down and read - the Shelby isn't available as a convertible. The convertible is the Hertz GT-H.
Just a GT convertible with a Hertz gold stripe. You can get them in black, white, red and gray. They also have several neat body mods but have the 5.0 naturally aspirated engine.

It does say Shelby GT-H. Not Shelby GT500-H. Sneaky bastards.
