Help on the Shelby Steering Wheel Airbag

Hi guys,

need some help here please!

I wanted to swap my steering wheel airbag from a mustang logo to a Shelby logo for my 2016. Saw one of the threads here and someone did try to do the same thing so picked up the parts number: JR3Z-63043B13-BA. I tried to look for this part and pretty much all website says JR3Z-63043B13-BB replaced BA. (The website does say it’s for Shelby from 06/24/2016) so I assume it fits. Bought it and arrived. The front has the Shelby logo which is exactly what I want but found out the back is different. Do you guys know what went wrong or the right part number for the 2016+ with the Shelby logo?

Can't you buy just the cover without buying the air bag? Will be way cheaper and you get to keep your current air bag

I don't think you can buy just the cover. I believe the cover is an Integral part of the airbag and has to be replaced as a unit.

OP, if your car is not a Shelby is it possible that the steering wheel is different in the Shelby? Just asking because IDK enough about the Shelby interior trim to know if that's the case.

So you have the 15-17 airbag. The new one is for the 18+ cars. It appears the Shelby switched over to the new bag early. Looks like you are going to need the pre 6/16 bag for your car.

The air bag cover clips onto the air bag. I replaced the cover on my previous Mazda 3. Searching eBay found it. ou can see in the OP's pics the cover surrounding the air bag module. They are replaceable. Just not sure one can be sourced easily

There appears to be cover replacements available from non OEM sources. They are not available directly from Ford. This is not a part I would trust from a 3rd party.

Thanks to another user who gave me the part number HR3Z-63043B13-BD which seems to have a right fitting but all websites say they have been discontinued.

This is not a part I would trust from a 3rd party.

Exactly. The cover is designed to crack in a very specific way, at a very specific pressure level. There's no way I would trust a Chinese knockoff.

Did you find HR3Z-63043B13-BD ? It's not discontinued, just very expensive.

Make sure to have the dealer you’ve chosen send you pictures of the assembly so that you know it’s correct.

I have yet to see an actual photo or detailed diagram of the backside of PN HR3Z-63043B13-BD on any dealer or part supply website. Haven't seen one on a google web search either. May have to actually visit a dealer that has one and have them show it to you.
