Just wanted to check with the experience of other people on the forum.
Dropped the car today for it’s safety recall and the health check video came back saying the clutch is heavily worn and needs to be changed as well as the release bearings..
The car’s done 10000 miles and I don’t necessarily drive ‘aggressively’.
Not sure if this is normal?

So got a call back.
He says the biting point is high hence the diagnosis but took the car last week for service and in Feb for a warranty repair and it didn’t get pointed out in any of the other health checks. The clutch biting point seems like the first day i picked it.
Repair bill £2500
Another route to go, dissemble the gearbox and see if it’s manufacturer defect or wear and tear. If it’s wear and tear then it’s £650, 4hours labour.
Any help on this I would greatly appreciate it…😔

Sounds like the dealer phishing for work, they probably need £50k a week profit just to keep the doors open, if it feels the same as when you bought it I’d carry on driving it until it does start to slip, the repair bill will be the same and could be 90,000 miles away

🤣
Thanks for the reassurance, after the call ended I started to feel the same. The engineer could just not be used to the clutch which still baffles me. I will put this aside👍🏼

They’ve assumed that the clutch is heavily worn because the biting point is high ? You feel that it’s the same biting point. If it was heavily worn I’d expect that you would have noticed it slipping. Then there’s the original quote of £2500 for the repair followed by £650 if it’s wear and tear ? I wouldn’t feel at all confident in their diagnosis at this point. As Jonny has stated, just keep driving it.

Just to clarify
They said I can go the diagnostic route and they would disassemble the gearbox. If the fault is wear and tear then it’s on me, if warranty then the whole thing is covered.
The £2500 is straight repair.
Thanks for your view on this😊

Erm - the clutch is hydraulically actuated, so even when wearing it will autoadjust and the pedal bite point will not change.
So realistically slippage is the only sign to find out if clutch is worn?

If it’s not slipping and you aren’t having any problems selecting gears(remembering it’s a truck gearbox) keep on driving.
And if you’re still worried get a second opinion from one of our expert non Ford Mustang specialists.

If it's doing that on an incline, it's the auto hold feature that holds the brakes on for a couple of seconds while you transition your foot from the brake to the gas and engage the clutch. If you're too fast, you will be trying to move the car forward while the car still has the brakes engaged.
