Hey All -

Over the past 3 months, we have worked closely with Hawk Performance and Nitto to put together the Ultimate Brake Pad Guide for Mustang owners.

There’s no doubt that there are different brake pads for different applications. And with so many choices out there, we set out to educate on which pad may be the best choice for enthusiasts.

We utilized our Steeda Q350 EcoBoost equipped with GT Performance Package brakes to test Hawk’s Street lineup on Nitto NT555 G2s (HPS-5.0, Performance Ceramic, and HP-Plus) and Track lineup on NT01s (DTC-30, DTC-60, DTC-70).

There will be a two-part video series that includes a product review, proper bedding procedure, 60-0 MPH testing, and data analysis for each line of pads – with the Track video featuring Taylor from Hawk Performance.

Additionally, we’re putting together a full-length article on our site to compile all this data and analysis in text-form – so, there are multiple ways to consume this content.

to be fair did you make the same test with the OEM DS2500 pads ? As otherwise we don't have a reference point ?

The HP+ was definitely given an optimistic rating for rotor wear . . . by half a scale segment if not more.

I'm also a bit surprised that from among the "street pads" they only tested the HPS 5.0 on the track.

The HP+ was definitely given an optimistic rating for rotor wear . . . by half a scale segment if not more.

I'm also a bit surprised that from among the "street pads" they only tested the HPS 5.0 on the track.

Much faster rotor wear. Asking HP+ pads if they like to eat iron is a little like asking a kid if he likes to eat ice cream. At least in street driving.

The same test with OE pads yielded similar results to the HPS-5.0. The purpose of this project was to differentiate Hawk Performance's brake pad lineup, not test how they compared to OE. Hope this helps!

I know Hawk has changed up their pad compound for the HP-Plus a few times over the years. As we didn't test the HP-Plus long term, I'm not sure how their most recent pad compound would've faired in terms of rotor wear.

As you'll see in the upcoming track video, the only reason we took any street pad out on track was to showcase brake fade. Being the entry-level pad from Hawk, the HPS-5.0 made the most sense for that test.

It was Eye opening to say the least very good test I enjoyed it and there is a clear difference between OEM/ HPS-5.0 and the DTC-70 pads. Which made me more eager to buy a set of track day pads for the car.
You may well get 'spoiled' by the improved 'bite'. Brake modulation is still easy enough, as long as you only need to move at the ankle and don't have to lift your entire right foot off the floor to get to the brake pedal.

How do they compare to the previous Mustang 'benchmark' brake pads, the ceramic StopTechs, in both braking performance/feel, and dust? Thx.
