Thought I'd ask this braintrust on how to use a pin type of connector (insert into back of mirror wiring harness) to install my Valentine one. You should never drive this type of car and especially in my color without one (my opinion). What type of connector do you suggest and what specific pins are the correct ones within the mirror to have it come on and off with the ignition. Thanks!

I would also be interested in power source up by the rearview mirror to do same thing.

I bought the MirrorTap cable and the mount (for my Uniden R7) from Blendmount. I'm extremely happy with both. The mirrortap came with a variety of flat blades that you can just slide into the backside of the connector. No soldering required.

For the wiring, I watched a couple of videos on Youtube which showed it pretty good. Our mirror is the same as all of the other mustangs. If I recall correctly, the black wire is ground (-) and that position is the wire that is on the bottom row closest to the passenger side (when installed in the mirror), and the yellow/brown wire is power (+) which is the position on the bottom row closest to the driver side (when installed in the mirror). Don't take my word for that though...make sure you inspect the connector to make sure you're tapping into the right wire/connector position!

Mine powers up with ignition and turns off when you open the door after turning off the engine. Works great!

Its pretty easy to run a line from the fusebox in the passenger footwell up to the mirror. That's how my dashcam is wired.

Which blendmount model did you get for the 500? Is it the same one for the 350?

No idea if the wires have changed or not over the years

The Blendmount for my Uniden R7 is P/N BR7-2001R, and the MIrrorTap P/N is MTX-1010. If you go to Blendmount's website they have a nice tool right on the main page you can use to figure out exactly which part numbers you need for your detector/setup. I'm 99% sure base mustang and GT350 require the same part numbers for this.

I WISH my mirror mount was so simple. A large plastic shroud is mounted on the glass behind my mirror, it houses various sensors for safety systems. There is no exposed wiring harness as it is all tucked under this shroud, which I have not figured out how to remove yet. There seems to be a small plastic “hatch” directly behind the mirror where the mirror power cable is. If that is removable, I imagine that’s my way in. Anyone know? (Pic attached is obviously from an external view.)

I saw the tool, I didn't see anything for the gt500. They had the gt350 so I assumed it was the same. Thanks for the part#

No worries. I really like my setup. Definitely recommend it!

I have them in all my cars. I have a gadget problem. :giggle: I have 2 uniden R3's, an escort redline-o and a V1G2. All on Blendmounts. Now I need one for my new GT500. Trying to decide which detector to go with.

That piece snaps off really easy and exposes the wires.

I'm new to Uniden detectors and the R7 but find the range amazing. This is the first detector I've had with arrows too. Will never go back!

I also read Uniden is adding auto-lockouts to the R7 soon via a firmware update so that it will remember where repeat sources (like smart traffic lights, doors, etc) are and mute the alerts automatically. I was really leaning towards the new top of the line Escort model but with the new firmware coming and the price being hundreds less I went with the R7. So far I'm very pleased!

I think your choice of the R7 was spot on. It's a great detector. Like the R7 the V1g2 has arrows too and your right its hard to go back.
