Hello,

As the title of this thread says, I had a full PPF done on my 2020 GT350 and got it back around the end of June. I was told to give it a couple of weeks to let it dry out to close some remaining air gaps/water in the PPF. It's been a bit longer than that due to various personal things, but I think I have given it enough time.

I tend to be a perfectionist and I know I am pickier than most, but I need your help/feedback to know how outraged I should be based on the job done. Taking a step back the job looks good, but up close and there are a number of flaws. I believe the place will fix the obvious stuff (peeling film), however I'm not sure how the fit and finish of the film should be expected.

One of the reasons I went with a full PPF (I know it is overkill) was to not have film lines on my car and ensure the vinyl stripes were protected the same, especially because it is white. The shop told me they extend the edges of the film so that the film could cover all of the edges, but it doesn't look like they really did this to me. In my opinion some of the way the film edges match up is not good, especially for the 7K I paid for the job... See some sample pictures below of the worst of it.

Quick notes:
They said they would remove the door handles and mirrors so there were no seams around them and they didn't
They said they would remove the GT350 badges to film under them and they didn't
Some of the edges are not covered at the front fender and side door where imo are high risk impact zones (pictured). They may have called them relief cuts?
The wrap job on the spoiler is not consistent on each side. There are gaps.
There are lots of gaps around the license plate area

So, is this normal for a PPF wrap or should I feel the wrath of Karen inside of me and request it all be repaired? I fear that they will not play ball outside of the obvious film peeled back.

I appreciate your feedback and apologies for the novel. I love the car otherwise, what a machine.

congrats on the GT350 HEP. very nice.

as for the PPF job, some of the work is just plain terrible (at least to my non-professional eyes). other pics i cant tell exactly what i am looking for, so it doesnt seem obviously bad to me. but i think it's fair to ask the shop to: 1) re-do the stuff they said they'd do but didnt, 2) re-do the obviously peeling and poor job, and 3) compromise or negotiate the other sections that you're not happy about.

all that said, i'd ask @derand . he does this stuff for a living...

I would have them re-do those sections personally. From the photos, it just looks like a lazy or an inexperienced install. For the price they're charging for full PPF, it should be high end work period. With how much money you spent with them, they should make this right for you too.

Here are pics of my Heritage R. My good friend did mine. Same material. There are reliefs in the center bumper cover section but are uniform and in an area where it would be very difficult to get a rock chip. On this car I was ok with it being around the emblems. He does very nice work and what I paid is immaterial because hes such a good friend. I think you know the answer on what the quality is your receiving. I hope it works out but with what they’ve done so far they may not be up to the task.

Your car is beautiful, but that PPF job is terrible. I’m fortunate to have a great shop close by so I can’t even imagine what I would be feeling in your shoes right now. To let a car of that caliber leave their shop looking like that I’m not sure I would trust them to fix it. I would tell them to just remove the film and refund my money. Perhaps another option is to contact xpel regarding their warranty and see if it can be redone at a different shop.

Thanks all for your feedback! I figured this was not something that would be considered "normal" in the PPF process, but wanted to put my feelers out first...

@lightrules sorry for some pics not being so clear, perhaps I should have circled the areas I wanted to highlight. I was either showing an obvious trouble area, such as peeling film or film that didn't adhere in the first place, or film that did not wrap around the edges, which was a lot. I specifically asked them if they extend the templates to wrap the edges and they said yes.

@Inthehighdesert thanks for sharing your pics. That definitely looks much better. None of your edges look exposed in the front except for a relief cut here or there. This seems much more reasonable imo.

@Drafty agreed with all the things. I'm not too upset about the badges, if anything I'm more upset that they didn't do what I asked. The door handle is my area of most disappointment because you know that thing will get dirty and show the lines on a white car. Ultimate is 8mil and no ceramic or tint was included. It was 1k more for a 7 year ceramic. I wanted to do it, but after already spending 7k on the wrap itself + just having my wedding + just going on my honeymoon it was already a bit of a stretch with my wife haha. I'm in the Detroit, MI Area. This cost seems to be about par for the course.

I agree that I have concerns about them doing a good job with the re-do. I guess I will speak with them in the next day or so and see what they have to say first, then decide how to proceed. They do all kinds of very expensive cars, so I'd expect their jobs to be better. They were rated well on google as well.

I also agree that some of the work is unacceptable. I have most of my HEP covered in Xpel and my install looks like @Inthehighdesert above. That's what it should look like when they are done.

Wow, sorry to see that job on your new car. Some parts like the top front hood clip are in 2 pieces, but the rest is bad, I'm sure that it wasn't cut with the dap system from XPEL. All the other members are right in their comments.

Thanks. Yeah, I know some of the pieces have cuts because that's the way the templates are, like in the case of the front nose/bumper cover. On one size the lines all perfectly mate up and on the other there is a little bit of a gap.

What do you mean by the dap system? When I was given a tour of the shop before pulling the trigger they showed me their plotter and pulled up the xpel software application with all of the different templates shown. At the time I was considering not doing full coverage so he was trying to illustrate what the different coverage options were.

On a scale from 1 to 10, I rate the chance of whoever did that job redoing it to a good standard as 1. If they do high-end work and have good rating, I can only think the people who do that work is somebody other than whoever did your work.

I've been PPF-ing my car myself without any prior experience or training, cutting bulk rolls of PPF by hand. Some parts have turned out good, some ok, and some just terrible, but I''lll say seeing the job you paid top dollars for makes me feel a lot better about my own work. ;-)

Whoever did your job needs to go back to xpel-school.

There is zero reason to have relief cuts except at edge of door or sections not protected (gaps). I have about 90% done (partial roof and skipped rear fenders) and every piece is tucked under, corners are 100% covered in every area. All vents were removed as well as badges.

I could not tell what pic 4 and 5 were of so couldn't take them. But here is mine in just about every area you posted. I paid $5k and that included paint correction and 3 coats of ceramic. I'd be pissed at $7k.

I have a full wrap on my car and can only see one seam in the headlight area. It is not coming up, but you can see the edge on the film in that area. Other than that, everything is hidden and I cannot tell because they tucked them in so well into the seems of the car. I would definately have this redone and corrected.

With XPEL you will get some lines on the front end. But its well worth it. I only did the front clip and mirrors

I don't have a single line on my front end. It can be done properly with xpel.

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
I assume they went right over the stripes also. Is there an air pocket at the stripes to body intersection? Maybe negotiate a refund of some sort and live with it. I don’t think I could handle having them attempt to fix any of it, as it may just become worse.
