I'm curious as to why he didn't recommend swapping the cams, since it's known to work with a Gen2 computer....
He said “thats just throwing parts at a problem “ 😂
Seems may be he did not like the idea of someone else coming up with a fix , and was not interested when I tried to explain the rationale.
I certainly would not buy a predator motor for what they are asking just to swap the cams and make it a “low CR 5.2 Alluminator.”
It. would probably be cheaper and less hassle to buy (even cheaper to build your own ) and slap on a predator blower or may be not since you will have to source all the front drive .
I still feel the engine could be operated by a Gen 3 ECU (turning of the DI ) but don’t have the expertise to try it myself .. paging @engineermike

Do we believe the gen3 and predator cams to have equivalent reluctor patterns?
Thanks Prof !
yes they are , at least per VMP. I should have both cams in hand soon to compare .

Thats part of the reason it’s a Gen2/3 “hybrid “. Also uses 4 knock sensors like Gen 3 .
The cam phasers are Gen 2 .

Guy was clearly old school…..he also said 12:1 and boost was a bad idea 🤫

Sp you want a 12:1 predator but don’t want to use the control pack due to the transmission. It might be easier to defeat the trans controls on the control pack than to make the gen3 pcm work without gdi and with the cta phasers. Actually, easiest might be something like a predator short block and either 5.2 heads but with the ford performance gen2 5.2 cams (m-6550-m52) and a gen2 control pack. This may be the simplest way to get there. I dunno for sure though. You know I built a stock predator short block with gen3 heads so I could keep the gdi.

Thanks Prof.
yeah I remember that .
I have put Gen 3 heads on a 5.2 SB too (just not with the predator crank ) . I was hoping to build a complete predator long block but 12:1 this time .
I already kind of realized swapping the cams(would become a 5.2 Alluminator ) to use a control pack with a 6r80 would be the simplest option .
I actuality already have built 6r80 and control pack I could use .

I thought I got a deal when I bought like new Gen 2/predator heads with the predator cams thinking I would be able to use the cams- I forgot someone had mentioned on this forum, the different reluctor wheel
Should have done my research a bit more .
Was trying to find a way to use the cams so they don’t become paperweights.
I have one last “spare “ 10r80 and so was looking to see if that would be an option with a Gen 3 control pack .
I guess not

To be clear, the aluminator has a stock coyote block, crank, and cams. So using predator block, crank, heads, and FP 5.2 cams would make it more predator than aluminator IMO.

I already have an almost identical long block in my Hellion S550 but boss crank and 11:1 pistons

The only option if I want to keep the cams is to just wait for Ford performance to come out with a control pack and pair with a manual transmission (not a bad idea since already have multiple 10r80/6r80 swapped cars in the works ) … one done so far
Built Gen 3 /10r80 /Edelbrok … in case you missed it . lol

Or F-150.

Would be interesting to see one crammed into a Ranger lol
Or into a used V6 Raptor.. Cheaper than buying a Raptor R. If you could find one.

What would be the advantage of me switching from my gen 3 coyote that already has a centri installed? I’d love to have that setup but does it make sense for me? I’m currently at 689rwhp. I’m not sure what my crank is.
